Robotics Revolution in STEM Lessons

Embracing Innovative Tools in the Classroom

Our STEM lessons have taken a giant leap forward with the introduction of cutting-edge robotics tools like Sphero and Matatalab Vinci Bot. These engaging technologies are transforming how students learn coding, problem-solving, and STEM concepts. Each week, students alternate between using these innovative robots to enhance their learning experience.

Exploring with Sphero

The Sphero robot is a versatile, app-controlled (Sphero Edu) spherical robot designed for interactive learning and play. Equipped with programmable LEDs, sensors, and motors, Sphero can perform various actions, from rolling and spinning to changing colours. Students in Years 3-6 have been using block-based coding to create shapes such as squares, triangles, and wavy lines. Today, they even succeeded in making the Sphero jump over a ramp, showcasing their growing coding skills and creativity.

Hands-On Learning with Matatalab Vinci Bot

Students have also begun exploring the MatatCode app to program the Vinci Bot, which offers a hands-on, screen-free approach to coding. Using a physical coding board and command blocks, students can program Vinci Bot to complete tasks, create drawings, compose music, and tell stories. This tangible learning method fosters logical thinking and creativity, laying a strong foundation for future technological literacy.

Storytelling Adventures with TaleBot

The younger students in Foundation to Year 2 have been working in pairs to create stories about TaleBot's adventures. They have started documenting their stories and sharing their favourite moments or photos on Seesaw to celebrate the joy of storytelling together. This activity not only enhances their narrative skills but also promotes teamwork and creativity.
