SCHOOL UNIFORM

We have noticed an increasing number of students coming to school without the school uniform on. Wearing our school uniform fosters pride in our school, encourages children to identify with the school, and gives them a sense of belonging. It also assists with supervision and safety on out-of-school visits and unites students from varying social and cultural backgrounds into a cohesive school whole.

The school uniform is compulsory for all students and we would appreciate your assistance in ensuring that students are wearing the correct uniform each day.

Uniforms can be purchased either online or at our uniform supplier's retail outlet at:

PSW East Kew

MATHEMATICS AT HOME FOR THE EARLY YEARS

Families play a crucial part in the development of children's mathematics and numeracy learning. As is the case for educators, family members’ own beliefs and attitudes towards mathematics and numeracy influence the way that children feel about engaging with and developing their mathematics and numeracy skills. Since numeracy in the early years is so highly connected to daily life and the way we make meaning of the world, families can provide opportunities to explore mathematics and support children to become confident about their mathematics and numeracy learning.

Throughout the following resources, learning experiences have been identified that are specifically designed for families to try at home.

2024 CURRICULUM AND OTHER CONTRIBUTIONS

Thank you to the parents and carers who have already accessed the 2024 Curriculum and other contributions on Compass. To access the 2024 Curriculum and other contributions, please go to the Course Confirmation and Payments on Compass using the link in the green box above the newsfeed.  Contributions can be made in full, or via a payment plan option.

Additional information regarding the 2024 Curriculum and other contributions can be found via your newsfeed on Compass or on Compass - School Documents - 2024 - Parent Payments.

We would like to thank all families for their ongoing support which ensures that we can continue to offer the best possible education and support to our students and their families.

Parent Contributions are organised in the following categories:

Curriculum Contributions: items and activities which are necessary to support a student's learning of the curriculum.

Educational Items for Students to Own: are other items that the school may invite parents to supply or purchase such as notebooks, stationery, or a digital device.

Other Contributions: Parents are also invited to make a voluntary financial contribution for non-curriculum items and activities that will further enhance the high-quality educational experience at Milgate. The choices we make regarding the payment of contributions is an opportunity to directly impact the quality and range of educational options beyond the standard curriculum.

Extra-Curricular Items and Activities: Items and activities that enhance and broaden the schooling experience of students and are above and beyond what the school provides in delivering the Curriculum. Milgate PS offers a range of optional activities on a 'user pays' basis. Some examples of our extra-curricular activities are Camps, Excursions, Extra-curricular sporting activities, School Musical Art Show and Yearbook.

School Council has made a considerable effort to ensure that our suggested contributions are fair and that there are options in place to support families. Please contact the school office on 9842 7744 if you have any questions regarding the process or payments or if there is a need to discuss financial assistance.

SAFE AND CARING CHOICES & REDUCING RUBBISH IN THE YARD

This week, we have focused on students making safe and caring choices with their peers while outside at recess and lunchtime. We have adapted and explicitly taught the rules for the Gaga Pit and the Table Tennis tables, and we have seen improvement in students' playing safely and fairly.

We have also seen a significant reduction in the amount of rubbish that has been in the schoolyard during recess and lunchtime. During the morning session, students are able to eat fruit and vegetables at 10 am, and then all students have time to eat their snacks before going outside. At lunchtime, all students get 10 minutes to eat their lunch, and then if they have not finished, they can take their food to the canteen area to finish eating. Well done to all Milgate students for making safe and caring choices with each other and looking after our school environment.

LANGUAGE ARTS

AN INVITATION TO ALL PARENTS AND CARERS!

Next week, we are once again welcoming Matt Glover to Milgate Primary School! We encourage all parents to join us for a night of conversation where you will gain a deeper understanding of your child's writing journey at Milgate. Please come along and participate in this fantastic opportunity.

On Wednesday 12th June, Matt Glover will be visiting us at Milgate. He is a renowned international educational consultant from America, who has been working with the school, transforming our approach to Writing. During the session, Matt will delve into practical strategies for fostering student agency and creativity in writing. He will also provide insight into techniques we use for personalised instruction tailored to each student's needs through conferences, one-to-one instruction, and goal setting.

STUDENT BOOK REVIEWS

Book: Tubby Nugget’s Tearable Book by Jenine Pastores & Josh Jackson

I like this book because it explores friendship, has detailed illustrations and it is a ‘just right’ book. The book has lots of adorableness and it is interactive – you can fold the pages into an envelope! I would recommend this book because I think the author/illustrator is very talented, and it will make you laugh.

Book: Wings of Fire #7 by Tui T Sutherland

This book is about dragons going on a mission to find a dragon named Icicle. It is a good book to read because it has lots of drama and action. People might like to read this if they enjoy drama, dragons, quests and action.
