Boarding Update

Mr Lee Taylor, Head of Tower House

Kinross Wolaroi boarders are:

K - Kind, considerate and friendly

I - Intelligent, hard-working and willing to give it a go

N - Nice to each other and are good friends who look out for one another

R - Receptive to changes and respond well to feedback

O - Outstanding citizens and great community-minded people

S - Service oriented and keen to assist when needed

S - Sensitive to the needs of others and are leaders in their fields.

I am always impressed with our boarders, and their resilience and willingness to get on with things, and their desire to make the most of the opportunities that the School offers. As we approach the end of what has been a busy term, it is often a good time to reflect and look ahead.

Last year, guest speaker Gerald Power, Deputy Mayor of Orange, spoke to the boy boarders about what he was passionate about. He mentioned the importance of making the most of the opportunities that are available and used an analogy of driving a car to illustrate his thoughts. We look through the front windscreen at a changing environment forever moving forward, whilst occasionally using the rear vision mirror to look back. This is a great way to look at one’s school experience - look at the end goal, always strive towards this and learn from what has happened in the past.

In saying this I wish outgoing Head of Miller House, Haidee Priest, all the best as she looks forward to a new chapter in her life away from boarding. Haidee has spent over 15 years selflessly caring for others and providing opportunities for the girls in her care. On behalf of the boarding community and the School I would like to wish Haidee all the best for the future. The boarders and their families, past and present, are all very grateful for her remarkable efforts.

Some administrative information regarding the end of Term 2:

  • Boarders will not be permitted to leave for travel home until they have completed all school commitments.
  • There are a number of camps that are taking place in the boarding houses during the holidays. Please ensure that boarders take home all belongings from their boarding house, unless prior arrangements have been made with your Head of House.
  • Prior to leaving for the holidays please ensure that Heads of House have checked your rooms, cupboards, etc. and that you have completed Orah leave prior to departing.
  • Boarding Houses will close on Friday 28 June at 10.30am.  All students must be collected by this time.
  • Boarders will be expected to return to School on Monday 22 July. The boarding houses will be open from 1.30pm to welcome the students on their return.

Finally, best wishes to the Rugby Tour participants who are heading over to Japan to play and to explore. This promises to be an exciting experience for everyone involved.

I wish everyone a safe a restful break and look forward to seeing you all at the start of Term 3.

Boarder Parent Events

Friday 24 May to Sunday 26 May was a busy weekend for our boarding parents which began with a Golf Day for fathers, and a Luncheon for mothers on Friday.  Saturday saw our boarding parents on the sidelines watching netball and rugby teams in action, and this was followed by a boarder parent drinks event on Saturday evening.  The weekend was a great opportunity for our boarding parents to see old acquaintances and make new friends.

Thank you to Chrissie Baldwinson and Gemma and Will Martel for their organisation of these much appreciated events.
