From the Head of Junior School
Mrs Virginia Milliken
As we near the end of Term 2, I’d like to acknowledge the dedicated and talented staff in our Junior School that bring learning to life for our students every day. From ensuring academic rigour in the classroom, experiential learning across the community to showcasing their skills in enhancing performing arts, technology, sport, visual arts and many other areas of expertise for our students. I am grateful for their ongoing commitment to our fabulous school.
The term is certainly finishing on a high with many great events. Tomorrow evening, the Junior School Performing Arts Concert will be held. An annual event that is greatly anticipated on the school calendar and one where we see all students shine as they bring the DPA to life with their singing, dancing and performing.
Next Tuesday, we will host our Year 3 - 6 Technology Showcase in the Glasshouse. This is an opportunity for our parents and younger classes to have a glimpse inside the classroom and hear from the students what they have been learning about in Technology this term. Technology is integrated across Key Learning Areas and is an important medium for our students to access as it provides them with a unique platform to demonstrate their knowledge, skills and understanding of topics taught. Some examples of what will be on show next week include:
Student voice and agency are crucial in empowering students to actively participate in shaping their educational experiences, fostering a sense of ownership and responsibility for their learning journey and learning environment. When students are given opportunities to express their perspectives and make meaningful choices, it enhances their engagement and cultivates a more inclusive school. This term students have had a voice in deciding what equipment they would like to see in their playground. Voting was facilitated by the SRC, and we eagerly await the results and design ideas for our playground refurbishment.
As we conclude Term 2, we reflect with gratitude on the rewarding experiences that have fostered the all-round growth of our students. This term underscores the dedication and teamwork of our educators, staff, and parents in cultivating a supportive and dynamic learning environment. As we anticipate a restful break, we eagerly await the return with renewed vigour and excitement to embrace the opportunities and challenges of Term 3 ahead.
