NETBALL ACHIEVEMENTS

2024 Netball Victoria Talent Identification

The Association Championships hosted by Netball Victoria recently took place over the last few weeks.

Victoria is split into six “zones” which each hold a tournament in their region to determine the two strongest teams. These two teams progress through to the State Finals Day, where they face the other winning teams from each of the other zones.  The associations surrounding Lilydale High School fall under the Central East Zone.

The competition forms one component of the vital pathway for the Talent Identification (TID) of netball players, coaches, and umpires across Victoria each year. This serves to strengthen the standard of players and umpires across Victoria.

Talent-identified athletes can be invited to their respective Zone Talent Academy, or invited to participate in representing Victoria at the state representative level in the 17 & Under and the 19 & Under age groups.

Despite their team not qualifying to compete in the State Finals Day, Lilydale High School has been lucky enough to have two students talent-identified at the Central East Zone Association Championships held at Frankston & District Netball Association on Sunday June 2nd.

The following two players have been invited to trial for the Central East Zone Academy in November 2024:

  • Myra Craig (9A)
  • Marley Jones (9G)

If successful, Myra and Marley would train with excellent coaches to fine-tune their skills within the academy.

We have also had one of our very own staff members talent-identified by Netball Victoria as an umpire.  After receiving positive feedback at the Central East Zone Association Championships, Mr Keats, who is a B Badged Netball umpire, was invited to officiate at the State Finals Day Association Championships held at the State Netball and Hockey Centre in Parkville on,  Sunday June 16th.

We congratulate Myra, Marley and Mr Keats on their Netball achievements and wish them luck moving forward!
