From The Team

Hello Year 5/6 families!

We've had a fantastic time recently in Year 5/6! Although last week was a short one, it was packed with exciting activities. Some of our students represented us at the Boys Netball Day at the Knox Regional Netball Centre, all students took part in our annual House Sports Carnival, continued working on their Arcade Game projects, and enjoyed some BYO board game time as part of our ‘Fun in 5/6!’ sessions.

Graduation and leadership preparations are also in full swing! Last week, our Year 6 students began practising their Graduation dance with Miss Crofts. This week, we’ve started our speech-writing unit, with the Year 5s drafting their leadership application speeches, and the Year 6s working on the speeches they’ll present at their Graduation ceremony. Leadership application speeches will take place next week on Monday and Tuesday afternoon.

We’re looking forward to a fantastic fortnight ahead!

What We Are Learning

Reminders

Homework

Don’t forget homework! Students are expected to read for 20 minutes each night and work on their writing and maths assignments, which are assigned every two weeks. Homework should be done in homework books, and the reading diary should be filled out daily.

Arcade Games

Our games are still being constructed and we are piecing together our designs. If you still need to source any items from home, make sure you do so soon as our Arcade Games Expo is right around the corner!

Arcade Games Expo

Save the Date for Our Arcade Games Expo!

This term, in Integrated Studies, students have been busy designing, creating, and building arcade games. They’re eager to share their hard work with the school community and their families at our upcoming Arcade Games Expo!

When: Monday, 25th November 2024

Where: School Hall

For a gold coin donation, students from other levels can enter the Expo and cast a vote for their favourite game. The more they donate, the more they can vote, giving them more chances to win an icy-pole day for those who vote for the winning project. All donations will go towards the Year 5/6 Big Day Out later in the year. Each class will attend at a scheduled time, allowing students to vote during their visit. More details are available in the flyer.

Family Open Afternoon

We’re excited to invite friends and family to a special Family Open Afternoon as part of our Arcade Games Expo!

When: Monday, 25th November 2024

Rugby Gala Day

On Friday the 1st of November, we went to Kings Park Oval to spend the day playing rugby and to represent our school. There were 4 teams - 2 boys' and 2 girls' teams. The day was about playing friendly games of rugby and having fun. The rules were no tackling, and we had to rip a tag off the other teams instead. The games were 10-12 minutes long. All the teams did a great job at keeping it fun and playing by the rules. In between games, there were races and dancing competitions that were pretty cool and you could win Melbourne caps. There was even a teacher race, and Miss Harper came second last...but that was better than last! Everybody had fun dancing and requested songs that we liked. We even created a mosh pit and dance circles. We all had so much fun at the Rugby Gala Day and we would highly recommend doing it again next year!

Boys Netball Day

On Thursday the 7th of November, 8 selected Year 5/6 boys went to the Knox Regional Netball Centre to participate in the Boys Netball Day run by School Sport Victoria. We left early in the morning and got there roughly at 9.00am. When we got there, we got ourselves organised and found a spot to setup for the day. We all then had to meet up on Court 19 for a meeting with all of the participating students and teachers to discuss the games, rules and how the day will run. There were about 36 different schools there with a total of 700 boys participating. Throughout the day, we played a total of 5 games including a special challenge game at the end. We even got to make a candy salad! We came fourth in our pool of schools. Overall, the day was really fun and we really enjoyed it! A special thank you to Miss Whittington and Alison for driving us to and from the venue, and for spending the day with us.

Remembrance Day Observance

On November 11th, Scoresby Primary School held a Remembrance Day ceremony. Our School, Vice, and HEART Captains shared speeches about the importance of Remembrance Day and discussed the significance of World War I and its conclusion. Keely read the poem In Flanders Fields by John McCrae. Around 11.00am, we observed the Last Post, followed by a minute of silence to conclude the ceremony. This time allowed us to honour and remember all the servicemen and women who served our country during times of war and conflict, especially those who sacrificed their lives and did not return home.
