School Council President Report
School Council meeting on October 30 included a wide ranging discussion. Some points of interest included:
- Our thoughts go out to the Auburn South school community following the tragic accident on Tuesday. At IPS, the School leadership, the School Council and the Banyule Council have all contributed to the physical safety of the school surrounds. The streets around IPS are narrow and we remind all parents to have extra patience, courtesy and vigilance around drop off and pick up times.
- As we look to 2025, and the start of a new strategic plan cycle, the School Council reflected on some of the achievements over the last four years. There have been numerous achievements in the class (academic achievement, pivot to remote learning), the school grounds (opening of the Beehive), in the wider curriculum (music performances) and in the community (fairs, PFA events) to highlight a small selection. We look forward to building on these achievements in 2025.
- Our leadership team has made good progress toward the structure and personnel of our teaching staff in 2025. This process is in its final stages and will be announced to the community before the end of the term, once all the moving pieces are in place.
- And finally, on staffing, I had the opportunity to attend a morning tea that our leadership team provided for the teachers last Friday as part of World Teacher Day. Having the opportunity to work closer with the school this year I have observed the dedication and skill of our teachers first hand and on behalf of the School Council, parents and community, thank all our teachers for their efforts supporting our children.
