Term 4 is a really busy time for the 5/6 team as you can see!
The "Tiger Paw' program was brought to us by the team from Cardinia Life and sponsored by the Richmond Football club. Students participated in some football training activities as well as some skill development. We also learnt about nutrition and the healthy eating choices of some elite athletes within the club. These included members of the AFL team, AFLW and wheelchair football. It was a very interesting program that taught us a lot!
We were also lucky enough to be a part of "The Clothesline Project" for the Cardinia Shire, run by the staff of Anglicare. Students learnt a bit about what Family Violence is and the number of incidences in our shire every year. We shared ideas for slogans and messages to be drawn on T-shirts to be displayed on the 25th November: White Ribbon day. All students designed their own T-shirt message and decorated a T-shirt each. Four of these shirts have been selected by staff to be displayed at the Pakenham Hall on the 25th between 2.00pm and 4.00pm. Congratulations to: Jai Sellers, Lucy Blackmore, Max Clark, Kasey Smith and Vincent Hicks.
Preparations are well under way for Grade 6 students in relation to the graduation evening on Wednesday 18th December at 6.30pm at the Bunyip Auditorium (stadium). At this stage students are hand writing invitations for families and staff and will soon begin preparing their own slide of photographs to be shared on the night. Please help your child to select 5 or 6 special photos of themselves growing up and send them through to the school via email. We will start on these on Friday 15th November.
Grade 5 students have had their first Buddy session with the kinder kids as part of their transition to school. Grade 5 students will be encouraged to work with different children on subsequent visits so that everyone feels comfortable with a variety of students and within different groupings. We are looking forward to our next visit when the Kindergarten students will sit with us for assembly on Friday 8th November.
Students have been revising various techniques for narrative writing in preparation for our final assessment next week. This week they have written a short story every day focussing on including literary features such as; alliteration, idioms, hyperbole, imagery, similies, personification, metaphors and more. We have had some fun prompts and enjoyed reading each other's work.
As we have covered most of the maths curriculum, we are revisiting some topics and extending our knowledge on others. This week we have learnt more about the order of operations (BODMAS) and really tested our resilience with some difficult tasks.
Reading lessons have included activites to help us compare and contrast texts. We have been looking for similarities and differences and used a varity of tools to help gather this information such as T-charts and Venn diagrams.
