Learning Community 2

3/4 Maxine Howard and Nicole Stark

We have made a cracker start to Term 4, and what a busy few weeks we have had!

In Writing, we revised Narrative, sharpening our skills in using descriptive words, sizzling starts which hook the reader, paragraphing, and including suspence.

We then practiced writing from different perspectives (1st, 2nd, 3rd person) and finished our week off with some Halloween writing about our day with a Halloween-themed Substitute Teacher character. Yikes!

In Reading, we looked at fables again, unpacking their history and their lessons. We compared and contrasted between similar 'evil' characters, and wrote and illustrated our very own fable picture story books!

We then moved on to procedure texts, writing instructions for Halloween-themed crafts, followed instructions to create mummies of ourselves, and wrote recipes for Halloween Sweet Treats from a photo reference, then made them ourselves! See our Marshmellow Monsters!

In Maths, we continued our Resturant projects, this time revising fractions in recipes and writing out recipes for our menus.

We then moved on to Money, making illustrations of some of our food items for the other class to buy! We had a shopping session and a selling session, working out change needed as we went.

In Integrated Studies we have been looking at the different natural landscapes and major natural features of the states of Australia. Today, we painted out landscapes using watercolour and they turned out great! Can you spot our little helper?

Halloween was a real treat!
