In Reading last week we learnt about compound words, cause and effect plus the differece between facts and opinions. This week we have continued on our work on the most common words, reading, writing and spelling these words which have been stuck in your child's reading diary every week this year. Please continue to read every night with your child and practise these words. We also worked on adjectives, changing a boring sentence into an interesting piece of writing with desciptive words. We learnt about the diagraphs ng, wh and ph.
In Writing last week and this week students completed their Information reports on their chosen minibeast and have been presenting their learning to the grade, answering questions about their minibeast this week. We have continued practising our handwriting and placing our letters in the sky, grass or dirt. We made a get well card for Ms Maree and continued work on our personal recounts. We made beautiful cards for our Grand Parents/ Special Persons Day and presented these to our special people on Friday, where we had a lot of fun making different paintings, drawings and written pieces together. Thank you to those people who came into our classroom last Friday; the students absolutely loved sharing their learning with you. I Pads were a real hit!
In Maths last week we revised addition and this week we are revising subtraction. We have learnt how to use counters, ten frames, numberlines, count on or back and the difference between two numbers to work out our answers.
Next week we will begin assessments ready for writing of the school reports. revising all the curriculum content.
Students of The Week
Last week Esme was voted in to be our student achiever by her classmates. Students said Esme shows our school values and she loved sitting on our special table with friends of her choice and taking Lucky home for the week. Well done Esme, we are so proud of you.
This week our student achievers were Alayha and Savannah. Alayha is such a beautiful friend to those in our class who may be feeling sad or hurt. She always goes up to comfort students. What an admirable quality.
Savannah has worked really hard this year to speak up and show us her confident side. Savannah gave an amazing speech about her chosen Minibeast and answered questions asked of her by her classmates.
Well done Alayha and Savannah; we are super duper proud of you both.

What a fantastic last two week we have had. We have been revising the long /i/ and long /o/ sound and the features of a fiction text. It was great seeing students being able to retell events in a text while explaining the characters, problems and how they were solved.
In writing we have been expanding our knowledge of using adjectives and adverbs to describe nouns and actions to add detail in our narratives. Students have been building their stamina in writing narratives and adding more information for their target audience.
In Maths we have explored money, multiplication and patterns. Students have used addition strategies to make purchases and count small collections of money using the skills they learnt in skip counting patterns.
Student Achievers
Well done to Darcy and Cruize for being our student achievers the last two weeks. You have been amazing and 1W are so proud of your effort.
We have had a very busy week 3 and 4 of term 4! We are busy learning new things and reviewing content we have already covered, the next few weeks ahead are full of assessments and will also provide students time to practice all of the wonderful skills we have learnt and are yet to learn from previous terms.
In reading, we have reviewed fiction comprehension strategies, these include summarising, visualizing, predicting, making connections, questioning and author's purpose.
In phonics, we have reviewed some tricky digraphs, such as /tch/, /ng/ and /ph/, and have begun expanding our knowledge of long vowel sounds and the most commonly used sounds of each vowel sound, whilst also exploring some tricky spelling patterns like the 'eigh' in eight making the long a sound.
In writing, we have continued to expand our knowledge of various text types, such as recounts and how to structure these effectively, narrative structure and how to add depth and detail to our writing, character and setting creations and poem writing when writing letters to our student achievers on a Friday.
In maths, we have explored fractions, symmetry, patterns, location and chance. We have deepened our knowledge of two- and three-dimensional shapes, flips, slides and turns and time. We have spent time exploring quarter-past and quarter-to time and how we can read these on analogue and digital clocks.
I will be contacting families within the next few weeks who's child requires a student support group meeting for this term.
Student Achievers
Congratulations to Charlotte and Dakota for being our student achievers for week 3. Charlotte, you were selected for your strengthening confidence at BPS and your increased determination to expand your knowledge, particularly surrounding your writing skills. Dakota, you were selected for continuously being a positive role model for our classroom and school, you really do always try your personal best the first time in all that you do.
Congratulations to Oli and Jack H for being our student achievers for week 4. As with the previous week, I was unable to choose just one. Oli, you were chosen for your growing leadership skills, particularly those surrounding collaboration and communication, I especially adore watching and hearing you take on feedback with a positive attitude and determination to better yourself and your learning. Jack H, the level in which your writing and spelling has improved is truly a credit to you and all of the hard work you put into your learning. You are always one of the first students to get stuck into your work and I can always count on you to give everything a red hot crack.
Next week at assembly, Finn, Dakota, Oli, Jack H (and next week's student achiever/s will receive their awards).
Whilst on the subject off student achievers, it is always an incredibly difficult choice to choose just one or two for each week, I like to choose our achievers for extra special reasons. During our class discussions about our student achievers I like to express my gratitude for all student's hard work at all times and we always demonstrate great resilience and support for our peers when they are chosen. We have all had a turn of being student achiever once this year, and students are now working towards having their second go, with many students already having achieved this. My hope is that we can all have two opportunities to be our student achiever this year. Please keep encouraging your children to keep working hard and to keep giving everything at school a go. I could not be prouder of each and every student for so many wonderful reasons and am looking forward to all of the incredible learning and things to come this term.
