LS2 SENIORS

This term, the senior students in LS2 have dived headfirst into the exciting unit of "Balance." They’ve been captivated by the idea of how balance shapes our solar system, uncovering the fascinating roles each planet and element plays in keeping the universe in harmony.

To bring their learning to life, the students are designing their own interactive websites, filled with their discoveries and reflections. With creativity and curiosity, they’re eager to keep building these sites, which will be revealed at the end of the unit—offering a dynamic showcase of their journey through this cosmic exploration!

Learning Space 2  Juniors

We are excited to share the highlights of our recent Hands-On Science Incursion! The students engaged in a range of interactive activities, deepening their understanding of important scientific concepts through hands-on exploration.

We learnt about:

Changes in the Sky and Landscape:  Students observed how changes in the sky and landscape, such as the rising and setting of the sun and shifts in seasons, influence our daily lives.

They explored the effects of these changes on weather patterns, plants, and animals, gaining a new appreciation for how nature affects our everyday activities.

Movement of Objects:  Through various experiments, the children discovered how the movement of objects depends on factors such as size and shape. They learned how forces like pushing and pulling can change how an object moves or even alters its shape.

These activities helped students grasp the importance of force and motion in the world around us.

SENIOR SPORT

BASKETBALL GIRLS TEAM

Today, our Basketball Girls Team competed in the Divisional playoffs. They secured the top position at the District Level, which allowed them to advance to the Divisional playoffs.

It was a lengthy day characterised by a Round Robin format, during which they played at least four games. By the end of the day, everyone was fatigued but immensely pleased to have participated. Congratulations to the girls for reaching this level of competition.

Well done - off to Regionals now!

GRADE 5 BIKE EDUCATION – CYCLING SKILLS AND SIMULATIONS

Grade 5 students will begin their Bike Education Program later this term. They will remain on school grounds completing cycling skills and simulations.

Please give permission for your child to participate in the Bike Ed Program via Operoo and ensure your child’s medical profile is up to date. Please also indicate on Operoo if your child does not have a bicycle and helmet. You will also need to print off and complete the two safety check documents, sign and return to your child’s Home Group teacher by Thursday October 24th.

Each child will require a bicycle in safe working order and an approved helmet that fits correctly and is in good condition. You will need to complete a bike safety check and we request your cooperation in having any necessary repairs, adjustments or replacements made promptly. You will also need to complete a helmet and riding gear safety check and it is essential that your child’s bicycle helmet fits comfortably and securely and that the polystyrene foam liner is undamaged. Forms for these safety checks are attached to the Operoo document for you to print but your child will also bring one home. Your child must have footwear that has closed toes and firm, non-slip soles such as runners.

WHOLE SCHOOL SPORTING EVENTS

SWIMMING

Another great week of swimming! Students had a great time and are learning lots of new skills in the water and becoming more confident. Thank you to all the SFS staff who helped the program run smoothly. A big thanks also to the parents who assisted the Juniors in the change rooms. We greatly appreciate it.

A reminder to parents that swimming timetables have been uploaded onto the Operoo permission form as an attachment. Please print it off and ensure you have it available at home.

  • Monday – LS1 Juniors and Seniors, LS3 Juniors
  • Tuesday – LS2 Juniors and Seniors, LS3 Seniors

Please ensure your child is wearing their bathers under their sports uniform and brings a bag with their towel, undergarments and thongs. It would be great if all students come prepared for their swimming lesson so that our office staff don’t need to take up valuable time ringing parents to bring students’ swimming gear.

Parents please note you are welcome to attend Casey Race to view your child’s lesson but photographs and videos are not allowed and only parents who have been contacted by me, are able to assist in the junior change rooms.

A reminder to parents that swimming is an important part of the PE curriculum and all students are expected to attend. It’s imperative that students know how to keep themselves safe around water. Students not attending swimming because of a medical reason will remain at school in another Learning Space.

Any queries please do not hesitate to contact me.
