F-2 Athletics Practise
This week the Foundation students have been practising their skills for the upcoming F-2 Athletics Carnival.
Here they are practising for the sack races and the egg and spoon races. Just look at the concentration!
Foundation FireEd visit
This week Foundation students had a visit from Heidelberg Fire Station Firefighters.
In the first session with the fire fighters Foundation students learned about:
- Safe and unsafe fires
- How to crawl down low and go, go, go if there is a fire
- The number to call in an emergency: ‘000’
- The importance of smoke detectors, especially at night because we can’t smell when we sleep!
- How to create a safety plan with our family and a planned meeting spot if you ever need to evacuate
The fire fighters showed students the important parts of their uniform and next week we look forward to seeing the fire engine!
Nature Play
When Ms Fray was on yard duty this week, we saw students were decorating a little shrub cave by hanging flowers and leaves on long pieces of tough grasses. They talked about how cool it would be if everyone used nature as decorations rather than the paper and plastic stuff we are all used to. How creative!
Year 4 Crime Scene Inference Skills
This morning the year 4 students became crime scene detectives. A cookie crime occured and students were challenged to use hone their inferring skills to solve the case of, 'Who Stole the Cookie?'
Case Solved!
Whilst it was super engaging and fun, students learning about using text clues, (what do you see?) and prior knowledge (what do you know?) mixed together to make inferences when reading!
Poetry 5S
In year 5 the students have been learning about figurative language and how it can be used to create imagery in poetry. Students used their senses and their knowledge of metaphors, personification and similes to write beautiful poetry!
