Year 7 Band
On Wednesday 6th November, the Year 7 band performed their Term 4 recital for family and friends. This was the culmination of the term’s work and the concert featured section instrument performances from: flutes, clarinets, alto saxophones, tenor saxophones, trumpets and trombones interspersed among whole band pieces. The complexity of the band music reflected students’ hard work with works that highlighted every instrument section and musical concepts of several musical ideas occurring at the same time.
The Year 7 band has gone from strength to strength over the three terms they’ve rehearsed and performed together and they demonstrated some fine ensemble work at this concert.
Year 7 band has another opportunity to perform at the ‘Junior Music Day’ to be held at Mt. Rowan with junior musicians from around the region on Thursday, 21st November.
Well done Year 7 musos.

Music Exams
VCE/VET Music performance exams are like no other. It is the only exam that you write yourself. All material / context / perceived audience / costume and set order is decided by students and assessed by industry practitioners in a simulated performance environment. Students are even assessed on how they respond to the unexpected, such as broken strings and tuning issues, etc in presenting a cohesive and structured industry crafted set.
Our students did a great job in preparing for the exams and seemed well pleased with their efforts.
All of our 2nd year Certificate 3 students are to be congratulated on their achievements.

Year 10 VET Music
On Thursday 7th November, the Year 10 VET Music students held their final performance of the year, celebrating their hard work, achievements and growth. The students organized an after-school concert in the band room at the Robinsons Centre, running the event largely on their own, with some taking charge of the sound and even addressing the audience.
The evening was filled with fun and memorable moments—highlighted by dancing (with the Macarena making its customary appearance), comedy, birthday celebrations, colourful costumes and of course, lots of music. The concert featured a variety of acts, including classic 70s and 80s tunes performed by Enpelio, festive Christmas duets by the Candy Canes, trombone and flute duets and solo performances by Going Second. We were also treated to a special performance from one of our newest groups, a metal band that rocked out with "Would?" by Alice in Chains, featuring a Year 8 student absolutely nailing the drums!
To cap off the evening, students and staff teamed up for an impromptu rendition of Runaway Baby, bringing the event to a fun and energetic close. While it's bittersweet to see these talented students move on, I'm excited to see where their musical journeys take them next and to watch them continue to grow as performers.
Final thought: Never forget—you can do the Macarena to just about anything!
