Principal's Report

PRINCIPAL'S REPORT

I can’t believe that it is already week 4 of the school term. Throughout the first 3 weeks we experienced many achievements to be proud of, both within and outside of the school. I am so proud of our students and staff. Keep up the marvellous work everyone!

Inclusion and wellbeing are the key to our school’s success. When we all act in inclusive ways it ensures that every student, no matter their background or abilities, has the same opportunities to learn and participate. It helps all students feel respected and supported, making our school a place where everyone can succeed. When students feel they belong, they are more engaged and motivated which increases the likelihood of success. As I look around our school, I see staff and students working toward building positive relationships and contributing to a safe environment where students feel connected.

Last Friday was World Teachers’ Day. This day is a fabulous opportunity to express our heartfelt gratitude to our incredible teachers and staff members.

Our teachers are not just educators, they are dedicated individuals who inspire, guide, and motivate our students. Their unwavering commitment to nurturing young minds, fostering creativity, and creating a safe and supportive learning environment is truly commendable.

We are certain that you, as parents, students and community members, have your own remarkable stories and positive experiences to share about our outstanding school and educators. The next time you see one of the staff, don’t forget to share words of encouragement and gratitude, as these mean the world to our teachers, who are the driving force behind our students’ success.

I want to remind everyone that it’s time to bring out the hats! Please ensure all students have a hat to wear when outdoors as part of our Sun Protection Policy. It is also a timely reminder to ensure that every student is wearing their school uniform proudly and correctly. You can purchase new uniform through the office here at school. If you need financial assistance with purchasing school uniform, please make a time to come and see me, as we can support families with this.

Please note that a staff professional day has been approved by School Council for Monday November 11. Staff will be spending the morning with our Regional Disability and Inclusion Team to broaden our understanding surrounding the processes that are designed to help schools and families when identifying the strengths, needs and educational adjustments that will assist students with a disability and/or additional learning needs. In the afternoon, staff will be working in teams to finish documenting teaching and learning plans for this year, and in preparation for next year. This is valuable work in preparation for 2025 and will be a student-free day so that staff can fully focus on the work that needs to be done.

Before I finish, I want to acknowledge the year 12 cohort whose time at Mortlake P-12 College is very quickly coming to an end. It can be a tremendously stressful time as the finish line gets closer. To our students, remember that the growth mindset and effort you take with you will hold you in good stead to truly be proud of what you have achieved at the end of your 13-year schooling journey.

I know that many of our Year 12 Students are working hard at the moment to prepare for exams, with the English Exam starting tomorrow.  Remember to keep the foot on the study pedal right up until the exams finish – it can make all the difference between getting the marks that you desire and deserve and marks that you’d otherwise be disappointed with.

Our school community wish you all the success, joy and adventure in the world as you complete your exams and embark on the next exciting chapter of your lives!

To the remainder of the school, we’ve got some distance to go before we get to also celebrate the end of the school year.  So, keep on putting in your personal best efforts so that you too can delight in the learning that you achieve in 2024.

Keep up the amazing work everyone 😊
