From the School Leadership Team

L'équipe de direction de CJC

Dear CJC community,

Smooth start to Term 3

Welcome back to term 3 and to the weather that is now much colder and wetter.

The start to term 3 has been extremely smooth and our children have settled back into their classroom routines very quickly - in fact, almost like they never left.

Paris 2024 Olympics

Only 7 more sleeps before the 2024 Paris Olympics are underway. The time zone difference may mean some late viewing or early morning starts to catch key events and athletes performing. Good luck to our athletes and we hope they can all do their best on the day in their chosen events and represent our country with distinction.

Warm welcome to our new families

Welcome to the new families who have joined our school community and we extend to you all the support and connections that our school community provides to new families an students.

Ms. Kam Pank

Ms. Kam Pank has commenced her fulltime teaching role in Grade 2 and she replaces Mrs. Wade who has moved to a school in the North East Region. Welcome to our team Kam, and I know our students and families will be keen to get to know you and engage with you as their new classroom teacher.

Parent teacher conferences

Parent teacher conferences have now been completed and we thank everyone involved in setting up and undertaking this major school reporting event. Reporting to parents is an important part of the feedback process. The presentations supporting our specialist program have been a well received improvement to the overall procedures of reporting student progress to parents. Presentations have been sent via Compass.

Bastille Day and Olympics Celebrations!

We are very excited to celebrate Bastille Day and the start of the Olympics next Friday on July 26! This year, the celebrations will be very special as the Olympic games will be held in Paris! Throughout the day, the students will participate in activities linked with the Olympics. We will run a multi-age day, so students will have opportunities to make new friends. If you are a trained Parent Helper and you would like to come and help, please message Mme Brandely through Compass. Don't forget about the dress-code: dress up in the team/country you will be supporting for the Olympics!

After school, please join us to celebrate sports with the Parent Committee events team. There will be a rich program with sports demonstrations, initiations, and challenges! Don’t miss this unique event!  Find all the details in this newsletter.

CJC at the Division Soccer Playoffs

Our 5/6 soccer teams will be competing at the Division Soccer Playoffs on the 1st of August (girls) and 2nd of August (mixed). Details will be available on Compass. Good luck to all involved!!

NAPLAN results

Earlier in term one we had students from year 3 and 5 undertake the National Assessment Program for Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN). These results have arrived at school and will be forwarded to families in the next few days. Staff have been looking at the data to look for supporting information to add to assessment data and a short presentation to school Council will be made on Monday evening regarding results obtained from these tests.

Different schools and jurisdictions use the NAPLAN data to advertise student achievement and school ranking. Some schools even require test results as part of an entry process. That is not something I support and we are pleased with our 2024 results - they show areas of improvement and also highlight some aspects of the curriculum that for these students, on this testing program, need some additional focus and support.

School uniform

Please make sure all uniform items are clearly labelled. As the weather is getting colder we are asking families to endeavour to follow the uniform policy and make sure uniform meets the guidelines and the colour code. Check the website for any clarification.
