Inquiry

Question: How do we create and take care of our special places?

Global Goal:  Global Goal: 11. Sustainable Cities and Communities

This term, our Year 1 students will explore the concept of special places and the importance of caring for them. Through storytelling, personal reflections, and collaborative activities, students will identify and describe their own special places, understand the emotional and social connections to these places, and learn how to preserve and respect these spaces for future generations. We will discuss how different cultures perceive and value their special places, and how accessibility and distance influence our interactions with these places. Students will also collect and interpret geographical data to represent their findings visually and draw conclusions about the best ways to care for these places.

  • Discuss Special Places: Have a conversation with your child about places that are special to your family. Share why these places are important and encourage your child to express their feelings about their own special places.
  • Create a Memory Scrapbook: Work with your child to create a scrapbook filled with pictures, drawings, and stories about their special places. This activity helps them reflect on their experiences and understand the elements that make a place special.
  • Explore Local Spaces: Take your child on visits to local parks, gardens, or historical sites. Discuss the importance of these places and ways to care for them, linking back to the concepts of sustainability and preservation.
