Bella Dotta Shines Despite Adversity, Qualifies Horses for Nationals
In a display of remarkable resilience and dedication at the State Interschool Equestrian Championships, Bella Dotta has successfully qualified both of her horses, Daisy (National Velvet) and Flirt (Dreamtime Flirtini), for the Equestrian Australia Interschool Nationals in Tamworth, in September. This tremendous achievement is even more impressive considering the challenges she faced during the qualification period, battling illness.
Bella's commitment to her sport and her determination to excel have not gone unnoticed. In addition to her qualifying success, she has applied to be the state team captain as well as the show horse captain. Her leadership qualities and passion for equestrian sports make her an ideal candidate for these roles.
More importantly, Bella takes great pride in representing Clayfield College. Her accomplishments serve as an inspiration to her peers and reflect the values of resilience and perseverance that the college upholds.
As the Nationals draw near, Bella enjoys the full support of the Clayfield community, who eagerly anticipate her continued success and wish her the best of luck on this exciting journey.
Athletes Shine at Queensland School Cross Country State Championships
The College celebrated impressive performances by two students, Grace Hunter (Year 6) and Chloe Noon (Year 12), at the recent Queensland Schools State Cross Country Championships held at St. Paul's School. The host region, Metropolitan North, designed a uniquely challenging course for the competitors. They strategically placed hay bales at various points along the route to disrupt the runners' rhythm and force them to adjust their pace and stride. Additionally, sections of the course featured tyres arranged in a zigzag pattern, requiring runners to weave through them. These obstacles tested not only the athletes' speed and endurance but also their change of pace adaptability, making for truly demanding and exciting races.
Grace Hunter, competing in the 11 Years division, showcased her determination by taking an early lead and maintaining it throughout the 3km course. Her strategic approach earned her the title of 11 Years State Champion. Grace's incredible victory secured her a spot on the Queensland team to compete at the School Sport Australia National Cross Country Championships, scheduled for August 20-23, 2024. The event will take place at Yarra Glen Racecourse in Yarra Glen, VIC, bringing together the nation's top young athletes across age groups 10 to 19 years.
Chloe Noon, facing fierce competition in the 17 Years division, showcased her consistency by finishing 10th in the 4km race. Chloe's performance is commendable, given the strong field of competitors. She now sets her sights on the Queensland Athletics State Cross Country Championships on Saturday, 27 July. There, she will compete for a place on the Queensland Athletics team, aiming to participate in the Athletics Australia National Cross Country Championships in September.
Both athletes' remarkable achievements underscore their dedication to the sport of cross country. The Clayfield College community is eagerly looking forward to their future successes on the National stage.
