Whats Happening In Grade 3
Welcome to our exciting Grade 3 newsletter! 🎉 We have so much to share about the
amazing adventures your children are experiencing. From fascinating lessons and creative projects to special events and fun classroom activities, there's always something happening in our third-grade world. We hope this newsletter gives you a peek into all the wonderful things your kids are learning and enjoying at school.
Literacy:
Our Grade 3 students have been hard at work mastering the art of information texts! 📚 They’ve learned to identify the key structures and features that make these texts so effective, including understanding the importance of presenting facts and using present tense.
Our young scholars have been exploring both macro and micro groups, and they’re now experts at starting their sentences with nouns, pronouns, and noun-pronoun combinations. Their new skills have shone brightly in their recent writing projects.
The highlight of their learning? Crafting some truly fascinating information texts about toys! The students have used their knowledge of visual literacy to create engaging and informative descriptions. We’re so proud of their creativity and the enthusiasm they’ve shown in their writing.
Mathematics:
This term, students have continued focusing on reinforcing their understanding of addition and subtraction. They have explored a variety of strategies to solve equations and tackle word problems effectively. Additionally, they have deepened their knowledge of 2D shapes, learning to identify their features and recognize these shapes in everyday life. They have also practiced identifying lines of symmetry within 2D shapes. Furthermore, students have utilized tally marks to record information and have learnt to transfer this data into graphs.
Olympics:
In celebration of the Olympics—a unique event that occurs every four years—we completed an engaging mini inquiry unit. Students had a blast creating their own potato athletes and participating in a range of numeracy activities to score points and earn medals. We also held an exciting Olympics Day featuring rotational games, where students had the chance to win medals for Teamwork. It was a fun-filled experience, and the children thoroughly enjoyed the festivities.
