Principal's Report
Dear Parents,
This week is Book Week and what better way to start Book Week than with our famous Book Week parade at assembly. There were characters from all sorts of books and it was certainly a sight to see. What was also a sight to see were the many staff members dressed up as their favourite characters too! The stars from The Wizard of OZ made an appearance along with many others.
This year we asked for a gold coin donation to help fund libraries in Uganda for children without books - a very noble cause indeed! The book fair is also on in the BER each day this week before and after school. Please come along for a look with more information fund further into this newsletter.
And if that wasn't enough, next week is our Fathering Project event starting with coffee to kickstart the day and the on to an assembly parade. From then it will be off to classrooms for dads and children for some activities, and finally planting nearly 100 shrubs out the front of the school. It is such a powerful message for children that education is important when parents and special people
This coming Saturday, Lauren Wishart and Tanya Lindsay-Clark escort our Tournament of Minds (TOMs) champions off to their big event at La Trobe University. TOMs is a program for primary and secondary students providing the opportunity to solve authentic, open-ended challenges that foster creative, divergent thinking whilst developing collaborative enterprise, excellence and teamwork. Our Mackellar Team has been practising for some weeks and we wish them all the very best for their first ever competition. No doubt they will do themselves, their school and family proud.
A special thank you to Lauren and Tanya for giving up their Saturday to provide yet another extension program for talented students at our school. Without dedication like this, these programs would not be possible.
Finally a reminder for parents with preps for next year. To be eligible for the $400 School Saver Bonus for next year's prep students, enrolments must be finalised by mid-October. Parents of 2025 prep students who have not enrolled by this time will not be eligible for the $400 for that child to be used on camps, uniforms of other school items. Please be sure to enrol on time to avoid missing out.
Kind Regards,
Simon McGlade
