TEACHING AND LEARNING

Our students have continued to make an excellent start to their Term 3 learning. We have had some fantastic learning opportunities happening around the school, including the  Prep Olympics, Year 1/2 Potato Olympics, Year 3/4 Olympics information reports, and the Year 5/6 elective classes.

One aspect of teaching and learning we are most excited about at Lucas Primary School at the moment is our new-look goals. Our teachers have been working very hard to create new goal mats and goal cards for our students to use every day. Each student will have a Numeracy, Reading, Writing, and Personal and Social Capabilities goal on their table. They will discuss and monitor these goals regularly with their teachers, and when they have achieved the goal, we look forward to posting it on Seesaw for families to celebrate.

We thank all of you who have popped into the Book Fair and remind you that it will be open Thursday before and after school, as well as 9:00-11:00AM while our grandparents and special friends are visiting.

KOORI CLUB

This term our Aboriginal boys have been a part of the Burron Guli program with Tristan also known as "Pancakes" and have been learning about different cultural values and traditions. The boys have been very excited to have Tristan back for this program and have enjoyed talking about what they have been doing in the sessions each week.

Koori Club students also had an amazing opportunity with the Western Bulldogs. We were visited by Jamarl and Katen, who ran a workshop and a yarning circle with us. During the workshop, we played games that taught us about Aboriginal culture and how our Aboriginal ancestors used to hunt. Jamarl and Katen also brought in special artifacts that have been passed down through their families and will keep being passed down to their children. They spoke about how these artefacts were used to hunt and protect them. They also explained the importance of them in Aboriginal culture and how each Aboriginal region have their own names for them. We look forward to sharing more soon.
