End of Year School Closure

We would like to remind all students and families that the last day of Term 4 2025 is today, Thursday 11 December. Please see below for important end of year dates:

 

  • Thursday 11 December – Last day of Term 4 for all students
  • Friday 12 December – whole school closed (*except for Friends' Early Learning and Friends Health & Fitness). Main Reception will be open until 10am.
  • Monday 22 December - Last day the School will be open for 2025. Main Reception and the School is closing at 4pm.
  • Main Reception will re-open from 8.30am, Monday 5 January 2026.

2026 Booklists

Students in Kindergarten to Year 6 are supplied with most materials, books, stationery, writing and drawing equipment in their classrooms and do not have booklists.  Families of students in Years 7-12 can access the 2026 book list and ordering instructions here. Students must be equipped with all of the items listed for each of the subjects they are undertaking and families should pay particular attention to ensure they have the correct editions of textbooks.

School Fair - Saturday 21 March 2026

We are pleased to confirm the next School Fair will be from 12pm-3pm on Saturday 21 March 2026.

 

This date coincides with Harmony Day, so we will aim to incorporate this important theme into the day and with various activities. The School Fair will also raise some funds for a worthy cause - details to be advised soon.

 

The Fair Organising Committee is seeking assistance with the following:

  • The Pantry Stall Coordinator, Allison Black is looking for donations, which can be made into jams, preserves or relishes. Fresh produce, including; tomatoes, lemons, quinces, apples, plums, rhubarb, berries and most welcome. Please contact Allison if you can assist with donations or make some items for the stall.
  • Donations are also sought:
    • Books in good condition - suitable for children & adults
    • Friends' School Uniform - in good condition
    • Bottles of wine – for a Wine Lucky Dip

       

These can be dropped off at The Friends' School Main Reception at our Commercial Road Campus (enter at 23 Commercial Road, North Hobart).

 

We will send out information soon about volunteering.  We look forward to our parents and students helping to create a fun event!

2027 Scholarships

Applications for Merit, Music and Boarding Scholarships for Year 7 and Year 11 entry in 2027 will be open soon.  Please refer to the School's website for information in the coming weeks.

Metro Buses

The Department of State Growth has contacted the School with an update to their services for 2026. Metro’s dedicated school bus services will commence on Thursday 5 February 2026, in line with the Tasmanian Government school term start date.

 

Until then, their general access public bus services will continue to operate according to school holiday timetables. All school service timetables are available on the Metro Tasmania website.

 

Metro have also asked schools to discuss positive behaviour on buses including: 

  • Being respectful to bus drivers and other passengers. Behaving safely and respectfully at bus stops and when boarding
  • Remaining seated and avoiding unnecessary movement
  • Not shouting or playing loud music
  • Keeping the bus clean and free of litter and not vandalising the bus or its equipment
  • Ensuring they have the correct fare or sufficient GreenCard credit and encouraging students and families to use GreenCard automatic top-ups to avoid travel interruptions

New Parent/Guardian Accounts Update

Thanks to parents/guardians activating your new accounts over the last week, we appreciate you managing this extra step as reports and learning records are distributed. If you require assistance with this process, please contact our Service Desk team using this form.

Uniform Shop Summer Holidays Opening Hours

The School Shop will be closed from 5pm, Thursday 11 December 2025 and will re-open Monday 12 January 2026 at 9am for general sales and appointments. Fitting appointments are highly recommended and will be prioritised. You can book your appointments here.

 

Normal trading hours will resume on Tuesday 3 February 2026. Open 8am to 5pm on Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday.

The campus store accepts credit card payments only.  No purchases can be placed on the School Fees Accounts or by using Cash.

Uniform Handbook

Parents/Guardians are asked to review the Uniform Handbook regarding the appropriate and acceptable School uniform attire for each section of the School. Please note the footwear requirements in the Handbook. Blundstone boots, Doc Marten boots and the like are not permitted as School uniform footwear.

2027 Kindergarten Enrolment Reminder

We wish to remind current families that 2027 Kindergarten enrolment applications are now open. If you are planning to enrol a younger sibling and have not yet applied, please submit an application at your earliest convenience. Early applications help us ensure we can accommodate siblings prior to finalising our enrolment intake.

UPDATE to 2026 Instrument/Vocal Tuition Enrolment

Private instrument and vocal tuition will be available at The Friends’ School again in 2026 for students from Years 3-12. The enrolment process for this in 2026 will be via Paperly and a link will be available for parents in the Paperly app in mid January, 2026. In the meantime, you can view the 2026 Music Co-curricular schedule here.

Quaker Meetings for Worship

All members of The Friends’ School community are welcome to attend our Meeting for Worship any Sunday from 10.00am, closing about 11.00am, with morning tea available afterwards.

 

Children are always welcome and there is a Children’s Meeting held concurrently with the Meeting for Worship. They learn about Quaker values through a range of interesting and fun activities. Around 10.50am the children join the Meeting for Worship, settling into the gathered Meeting for the last 10 minutes, usually sitting with their parents.

Thursday Morning Meeting for Worship

Members of The Friends' School community are welcome to attend a short Meeting for Worship held each Thursday morning during term time, starting at 7.40am. Just come quietly in when you can and join us until 8.20am in the Hobart Quaker Meeting House, which is located just below the Middle School Office on Boa Vista Road.

Community Yoga

Wednesdays 7.45am - 8.15am (Last class was Wednesday 10 December.

Recommencing Wednesday 11 February)

 

An inspiring way to start your day with energising movement, focused breathing and a moment for relaxation and stillness.  All members of the school community are welcome to attend and no prior yoga experience is necessary. 

 

Community Yoga is held in Hodgkin Hall and Julia will meet you outside the door on the Carr Street side of the school at 7.40am. If you would like more information contact our school Yoga teacher Julia Gibson.
