Year 11 Report
Mrs Shanae Coverdale
As a Year 11 team, we are proud to reflect on a year of leadership and memorable experiences for our Year 11 students at Norwood Secondary College. This cohort has embraced every opportunity of their first year of VCE studies, demonstrating resilience, enthusiasm and a strong sense of community throughout the year.
This year marked our students’ first formal step into the Victorian Certificate of Education, and they have risen to the challenge with determination. Whether completing SACs or preparing for exams, their perseverance and work ethic have been evident throughout the year. This year provided an opportunity for students to develop their organisation and study habits; skills that will ultimately set them up for success in VCE and life beyond.
We also acknowledge the dedication of our students undertaking the VCE Vocational Major, who have balanced their school subjects with TAFE studies and on-site work placements. Their focus, industry engagement and hands-on learning experiences have been outstanding, demonstrating maturity and a strong commitment to their chosen pathways. Our VM students were provided with valuable life skills including journey and event planning, as well as the preparation for, and engagement in, a simulated job interview.
Our Year 11 Peer Support Leaders have been instrumental in supporting the transition of Year 7 students into secondary school life. From attending the Year 7 camp to running regular mentoring sessions, they have provided guidance, encouragement and a welcoming presence to help younger students feel connected and confident as they settled into life at Norwood.
The mid-year Central Australia Tour offered students an unforgettable 12-day experience. Travelling through some of Australia’s most culturally significant landscapes, students forged meaningful friendships, engaged with First Nations histories, and returned with a deeper understanding of our country’s story. For our students, this was a particular highlight of their schooling and provided memories that will stay with them well into adulthood.

To close the year, students enjoyed the much-anticipated Year 11 Social. Together we shared a wonderful evening in the Norwood Hall dancing, snapping pictures and making great memories. With a DJ, photobooth and all-you-can-eat souvlakis, the night allowed students and staff to celebrate their shared achievements and the successful completion of the VCE Exams.
