Forest (3 Year Old Kindergarten) Curriculum

Creating a smooth transition into Field Room:

Starting from Term 4, Ellie and I have worked closely together to create a smooth and seamless transition into the 4-Year-Old-Kinder in Field Room. We started off by having multiple open gate plays to allow children to explore on their own and at their own pace with trusted teachers and peers. Next, we took a small group of children to join in on group times, allowing the Forest Room children to understand the expectations of the 4-Year-Old-Kinder's group time. Within this time, they were able to interact with the teachers, learn their names, and build a connection before entering in 2026.

All about Christmas:

We have celebrated so much in December!

Elvis the Elf has joined us, we learnt different Christmas songs, moved our bodies to one of our favourites... Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. Everyone helped decorate our tree, and of course, took turns to put the star on top!

We have had a couple of different Christmas experiences set up in the room, including decorate your own Christmas tree, Christmas tree sensory box, and lots of Christmas stories for the children to engage in.

Jobs in Forest Room:

We have started jobs in the Forest Room! The children have enjoyed taking responsibilities within the room and encouraging their peers to have lunch, pack up, and be kind!

Our class jobs are:

- Lunch monitor

- Sharpening monitor

- Class helper

- Book corner monitor

- Water trolley monitor

- Line leader

- Roll book monitor

- Locker monitor

- Classroom tider

- Printer monitor

We changed them daily to support every child in getting a turn at having responsibility in Forest Room 🌳

Recycling:

The week of the 10th of November was recycling week! We supported the children's knowledge by creating a play-based experience with our sensory bin! This included garbage and recycling trucks, recycling material, and bins. We also dived deeper within our group time by watching a recycling video and having group discussions.

The video included 3 different types of recycling materials: plastic bottles, cardboard boxes, and a tin can. Each time they came up on the screen, we stopped the video and took turns guessing what we could create.

These were our ideas:

PLASTIC BOTTLE:

- Aarjav: Plane

- Ash: Rocket ship

- Tanika: Shaker

CARDBOARD BOX:

- Trevor: A face

- Lydia & Mazen: A robot

- Penny: We could paint it

TIN CAN:

- Francesca: Paint a rainbow

- Mason M: Put flowers in it

- Taylen: Make it as Sonic

- Jing: Make Elsa

- Penny: Put coins in it

Nai implemented recycling craft this week, and the children LOVED it! Ever since then, the children have been obsessed with using recycled goods to create their masterpieces. We have also included the use of scissors in their arts and crafts, and we have seen their creativity rise.

Elvis the Elf:

Elvis, Elvis, Elvis! Meet our cheeky Elf Elvis.

Our cheeky Elf Elvis has been very busy the past two weeks getting up to mischief, finding different areas to hide and surprise us, and leaving us some notes. We have implemented Elvis to support children's creativity, patience, storytelling, developing self-control and problem-solving, and sparking communication.
