Sun Room Curriculum

Here we are at the end of the year already. We have had such a wonderful year together full of learning, discovery, growth and exploration. For the children getting ready to move up to Forest Room we know you are ready for all the challenges and excitement ahead of you! Our transition times over this term have been a great opportunity for you to gain an understanding of the routines of Forest Room, to get to know your new teachers and to find your confidence and sense of belonging. We know you will have an amazing 2026!

Let’s take a look back on a few highlights from Term 4….

Space Week 

We started off strong with Space Week! The children loved exploring rockets, astronauts, stars and planets. We had fun learning the song and dance to “Zoom, Zoom, Zoom, We’re flying to the Moon “ The children were able to use their imagination with their art creations. We also saw lots of role playing as our little astronauts went on big play adventures!

Numeracy and Literacy

This term we focused on strengthening our early numeracy and literacy skills. We worked hard on recognising the numbers 1 - 10 through games, songs and hands on experiences. We talked about “What letter does my name start with?” and “How old am I?", exploring shapes and sounds. The children have become more confident in recognising numbers and letters within their everyday environment.

Recycle Man and Recycling

We learnt all about recycling during Recycling Week and we kept this learning going for the remainder of the term. We were lucky to have Recycle Man the recycling superhero visit us as he really supported what we had been learning and was lots of fun! We sorted items such as paper, plastic and cardboard and talked about tin and glass. Lots of great conversations were sparked about keeping our world “Clean & Green!”

Sensory Experiences

I would have to say our all time favourite experiences of the whole year have been our sensory play ones. Whether it’s sand play, water play, chia seeds, foam, cooked pasta, sea shells, paint, ice, play dough or shredded paper it was an absolute hit with the children. Not only is it messy and so much fun it also supports fine motor abilities, creativity, language development and turn taking. 

Christmas

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! 

We celebrated in style over the last few weeks. We met Elphie the Elf, learnt lots of Christmas songs, including our concert song “Santa Claus is coming to Town!” Decorated our tree so beautifully, helped make Santa’s workshop and made Reindeer Food. We also had lots of art and craft on offer each day for the children to join in with.

From all of us in Sun Room we are so thankful and so grateful for this journey we have taken with you. We have created lots of long lasting memories and watched the children absolutely flourish. We will miss them but can’t wait to see all the greatness they achieve next year. Well done Sun Room!
