Mathematics Olympiad & Student Excellence

Maths Enrichment Program (APSMO)
This year, Cheltenham Primary School participated in Junior Maths Games (Yr. 4) and Junior Maths Olympiad (Yr. 6) through its involvement with the Australasian Problem Solving Mathematical Olympiads (APSMO) and its associated programs.
Students were involved in a series of problem solving tasks that fostered collaborative and lateral thinking, which were centred around explicitly taught strategies. It was pleasing to see students consistently display perseverance, risk taking and attempt alternative approaches as they collaboratively tackled challenging questions.
Four contests were held throughout the year for both programs, where students individually completed a contest paper. The Yr. 6 students had the opportunity to compete against teams from other schools across Australia and New Zealand, whilst the Yr.4 students competed against each other at a school level.
The following awards were presented to students for either; a high level of achievement, displaying strong teamwork, having a positive attitude, or showing an overall improvement.
