2025 Girls Cricket - State Championships

On Thursday 27th November, our Girls Cricket team competed in the state championships.

Over 2,000 Primary Schools compete in the School Sport Victoria Championships and only the 8 Regional winners are selected to participate in the State Finals. Our girls played 3 Pool games and then a Final. We won our first game in a close contest against Bellaire Primary School, before falling short against the 2 time defending state champions in Bass Valley Primary School and losing our final Pool game against Waverly Christian College. Our final game was the playoff for 5th and 6th against St Francis of the Field from Bendigo. It was a close contest with St Francis coming out victorious. The result meant our girls finished as the 6th best team in the state. A sensational achievement and an event that the girls will hold fond memories of for a lifetime.

Congratulations to our team - 2025 State Representatives

See below a recap of their cricket journey from our captain Maeve and superstar all rounder Lacey.

Last week the Girls cricket team went to the State Championships. The day was a blast! We all played our best in our four games, coming home with one win. The whole team was not only cheering and encouraging each other but also the other schools that attended. We had siblings, parents, grandparents and friends all come down to support us. We had signs made and heard lots of cheering. Some of my highlights were smashing some six’s and running quickly between the wickets. Mia also had an awesome wicket hitting the middle stump. I was lucky to be able to bat, bowl and field in all our matches. I had the opportunity to bat and bowl in the clutch moments at the end of our matches, when the games were tight. Overall we had an amazing day and want to thank Mr Penny for guiding us through this journey.

At the state championship we all had a blast! It was an incredible experience for all of us. We learnt so much and had the best time doing it, while all showing great sportsmanship for our opponents. We were cheered on by our parents, grandparents, siblings and friends. While on the field, we showed great support, encouraging each other throughout the day. We had numerous amazing moments, personally, I hit a nice boundary for 4 runs and Lyla and Allira’s 3 wickets. It was an honour to be voted captain by my teammates and lead the team on the day. Throughout the day we all showed our school values of kindness, respect, and responsibility. None of this would have happened without Mr Penny, his ongoing support and for taking his time every morning to train us in preparation for this event, we cannot thank him enough.
