International Student City Excursion

On 27 November, a group of 25 GEC International Students from Years 7 to 11 enjoyed a fun and enriching excursion to Melbourne’s CBD.

Our first stop was the State Library of Victoria, where students explored the general art exhibition and the Ned Kelly display, gaining insight into an important chapter of Australian history. They also learned about the library’s role as the state’s reference and research library – home to more than five million collections! A highlight was visiting the iconic La Trobe Reading Room, considered one of the most beautiful libraries in the world. Students were amazed by its stunning architecture and atmosphere.

We then headed to the Queen Victoria Market for a guided tour with the wonderful Irene. She explained how Melbourne’s food culture has become so diverse through generations of migration. Students visited a variety of stalls, including an Asian grocer bursting with colourful produce, a famous German hotdog shop, and even a store specialising in Australian game meats such as crocodile and emu. The tour ended on a sweet note with delicious Italian gelato!

Throughout the day, our students represented Glen Eira College proudly, demonstrating curiosity, respect, and excellent behaviour. It was a wonderful celebration of their hard work and achievements this year.

VIC International Student Program – 30th Anniversary Celebration

The event brought together schools, alumni, and long-standing supporters of the program.

A highlight of the evening was the reunion between our alumna Mami Maggie Nakamura (Class of 2007) – originally from Japan – and Ms Brancatella, who has taught at the former Caulfield High School, now Glen Eira College, since 1994. After graduating, Maggie has built a successful career and is now working as a pharmacist in Melbourne, demonstrating the strong educational foundations provided through the International Student Program.

We are honoured to have taken part in this milestone and remain committed to supporting the success and growth of our international students.
