Year 9 Camp

Year 9 Camp - Rubicon

Year 9 Camp was a valuable and memorable experience for students, centered on the theme of Adventure, Responsibility and Legacy. The Base Camp group engaged enthusiastically in a range of challenging activities that encouraged personal growth, teamwork, and connection.

Students experienced genuine adventure while paddling the Big River, navigating rapids and travelling through the same training waters used by Olympian Jess Fox. At camp, they challenged themselves on the rock tower, climbing to the top before abseiling down. Further highlights included forest hikes, swimming in dams, visiting waterfalls, making bush doughnuts, and enjoying music together. A standout experience was the hike up Mount Sugarloaf, where students scrambled over rocky terrain, completed harnessed rock climbing, and were rewarded with spectacular views from the summit.

Throughout the camp, students demonstrated a strong willingness to challenge themselves and support one another. They developed a clearer understanding of their comfort zones—comfort, learning, and challenge—and showed resilience by stepping into new and unfamiliar situations. The camp also provided valuable opportunities for students to build new relationships and strengthen existing ones.

Students took responsibility for themselves, their peers, and the shared environment, consistently contributing to pack-up, clean-up, and daily routines. The legacy of the camp was most evident in the connections formed, particularly during evening activities such as trivia, scavenger hunts, board games, charades, pool, and table tennis, which fostered teamwork, confidence, and belonging.

Other Year 9 students participated in extended adventure programs, including multi-day paddling journeys, mountain biking, and hiking between campsites. These experiences offered further opportunities for independence and challenge.

We are extremely proud of the way our Year 9 students approached camp with maturity, enthusiasm, and respect. They embraced challenge, demonstrated responsibility, and created lasting connections that will continue well beyond the camp experience.
