A Place of Belonging

Last weekend in boarding was a fun and busy one with our Orientation Weekend. It was a weekend of connection and settling in for all 2025 boarders.

Our Year 11 boarders did an amazing job leading the activities and games on Friday evening and Saturday morning until our Year 12 boarders returned from their retreat, with Boarding Captains Molly and Matilda then leading the events with our Year 11 cohort.

The highlights of the weekend were the s’mores and stories by the campfire and, of course, the annual visit to Wet n Wild with all other boarding schools in Southeast Queensland.

Homework

Prep began this week from Monday evening with three tutors each evening available to assist all boarders. This year, we have great delight in welcoming three 2024 Old Collegians, Dimity Whitaker (2024 College Dux), Hana Costello (2024 ATAR Dux), and Caitlin Pett (2024 College Captain) to our tutoring team, led by our Assistant Head of Boarding, Tina Mills.

Prep times are Sunday to Thursday as follows:

• Year 6 to Year 8: 6:30pm to 7:30pm (Rec Room)
• Year 9: 6:30pm to 8:00pm (Dining Room)
• Year 10: 6:30pm to 8:30pm (Dining Room)
• Year 11 and Year 12: 6:30pm to 9:00pm (Own Room)

Boarding Staff

This year, we welcomed five new and one returning staff to our boarding team.

Residential Boarding Assistant Felicity Anderson assists the evening shift Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, and Boarding Assistant Sam Taylor assists Thursday and Friday evenings.

Thomas Samuel and Lauren Taylor have joined the weekend boarding team with Ross Thomson, who worked at Clayfield College as Director of Enrolments & Marketing from 2004 to 2015, joining us on Friday evenings. We also welcome to the Sunday evening team Di Kerr, who was our previous Head of Boarding from 2013 to Term 1, 2020.

Our weekend staff continue to be supervised by Leean King on Saturday and Sunday mornings and Kim Holman on Friday and Saturday evenings. Tina Mills leads the team on Sunday evenings.
