Principals Message

Welcome back to school for 2025

We hope you have all had a well deserved break and opportunity to spend time with friends and family over the school holiday period.  We look forward to seeing you all again when students in Year 1-6, begin on Wednesday 29th January.

We particularly welcome new students and families to our school community. As well as our new Foundation students (commencing Thursday 30th), we warmly welcome a number of new students at other year levels.  A number of our new students were able to join us on orientation day.

This January edition contains important information about the daily operations of the school.  Please take the time to reacquaint yourselves with bell times, attendance, uniform requirements and other policies and procedures that help our students make a positive start to the new school year.

Our Focus in 2025: Building Strong Foundations for Learning

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

Welcome to an exciting new year at Trafalgar Primary School! As we step into 2025, our focus is on creating consistent and structured practices in both teaching and behaviour to ensure a calm and supportive environment where every child can thrive. Large schools like ours offer extraordinary opportunities, but they also require clear routines and expectations to work together safely and respectfully, aligned with our values of Be Safe, Be Respectful, Be a Learner.

This year, we will embed evidence-based approaches in literacy and numeracy to provide high-quality, consistent instruction across all year levels. By embedding the Orton-Gillingham Phonics and Morphology Scope and Sequence and the Ochre Scope and Sequence for numeracy, we aim to ensure every student receives the best foundation for success. These approaches will be complemented by the trial of knowledge-rich Uuits of work in Years 1 and 4, designed to deepen understanding and engagement.

In addition, we are prioritising a cohesive approach to behaviour management. Using strategies from Tom Bennett’s Running the Room and the School Wide Positive Behaviour Support framework, we will establish clear behavioural expectations and consistent responses across classrooms. This will create a calm, orderly environment where students feel safe, respected, and ready to learn.

We are excited to work alongside you to make 2025 a year of growth and success for all our students.

Sincerely,

Cameron Nicholls
