STATE HOOPTIME UPDATE

WE HAVE STATE CHAMPIONS! Congratulations to our Senior All Star Girls HoopTime team - winners of State Senior All Star Girls HoopTime 2024.

It’s been a huge week of State HoopTime for our three teams that made it through to this level.

Monday: Junior All Star Boys

Monday kicked off a brilliant start, with our Junior All Star Boys heading out to the State Basketball Centre in Wantirna South for their State Finals event.  Our boys did themselves proud, winning game 1, drawing game 2, losing game 3 and winning game 4, securing a place in the elimination finals.  After some brilliant team-playing efforts, the buzzer sounded, with both teams 10 all!  Time on saw all the spectating parents on the edge of their seats, with 20 seconds to go, and our team up by 1, then it was back to drawn scores at the buzzer.  This meant teams continued to play and the next goal was deemed the winning goal.  Unfortunately the ball ended up in the opposition's hands and… the opposing team scored the next goal.  We are very proud of this team, they have played so well as a group over the year, and no doubt have an exciting next couple of years ahead!  A huge thank you to Coach Chris, scoring guru; Kate and all of the supporting parents and Miss Antonio for her team support.

Tuesday:  Senior All Star Girls

To make it through to a grand final in your sport is certainly an aspiring goal for many, yet to actually qualify to play against the top school teams in your state and then end up being crowned outright HoopTime State Champions is what can only be described as an outstanding, team-spirited, deserved outcome!

This week, our eight Senior All Star Girls basketball team members arrived at the State Basketball stadium in Wantirna South, prepared to ‘give-it-their-all’ for their final primary schooling tournament for the year, for some; their last ever….

Despite a few pre-nerves taking hold in Game 1, which resulted in a 1 point loss, Coaches Luke & Trevor re-focused the girls and got them ‘game-ready’ for the rest of the day. The girls did just that, lifting in their shooting accuracy and team-play efforts to win their two final pool games and ending up top of their pool!  The girls then ‘dug-deep’ and played a brilliant team-game in both the quarter and semi-finals, showing just how well they combined as a team.

Finally, just when all the spectating parents & staff were feeling the effects from the five previous stressful sideline-cheering games, our girls HAD made it through to the Grand Final. Their opposition, Wembley PS (Yarraville) had just won their Semi final in a tight ‘extra-time’ game, so our girls had a chance to see how they played.  To our girls' credit, they gave it their all from the first jump-ball, got the first goal on the board and never looked back - with the score on the final buzzer at 17 - 9 our way!

A massive congratulations to these 8 girls: Sophie E, Alana C, Chaewon L, Evie G, Anjelika B, Maddy B, Emersyn O and Isla M.  What a brilliant way to end this massive year of school-based basketball for them.  To the coaches along the way; Luke, Trevor, Natalie and Imasha - thank you also for your guiding and supportive efforts, along with Kate B, our ever-reliable scorer; who probably had a tougher task than everyone!

The last time our school won a State HoopTime title was back in 2014; with our Junior All Star Boys taking home the title. So… ten years on, this win is a very special one for our girls and school!  Congratulations to them all!

Thursday / today:  Junior Future Star Force:

Our Force team have been playing their State tournament today.  We will report on their day next week.

SUPER DAY OUT AT MSAC for our

SWIMMING CARNIVAL

It was an action-packed, exciting, energy-filled, 100% effort day out at the MSAC pool last Friday in both our Junior and Senior Swimming carnivals.  We were blessed with a beautiful warm day of sunshine, which certainly helped keep spirits high over the day.

Our Junior carnival began with the 25m freestyle events, showing their development in swimming from swimming lessons back in Term 3.  It was fantastic to see so many students put their heads down and zoom across the pool. Students also completed a backstroke event, and to finish, all classes enjoyed a rubber-duck novelty race.  Miss Hill and Miss Lennon quite enjoyed their time as ‘support crew’ in the pool, stating the most difficult thing was staying on their feet, with the floor surface being quite slippery!

At the other end of the pool, our Senior students participated in their chosen events; being either 25m or 50m race distance.  It was brilliant to see so many take part in their freestyle event and then line up again for one or four further events!  Our Year 6’s also enjoyed their novelty ‘Rob the Nest’ game, as well as our annual stand-up Water Polo tournament, loving the opportunity to wear a real water polo cap to look the part, and have some competitive fun with their classmates!

CARNIVAL HOUSE RESULTS:

Junior Carnival: Finbar: 774pts, Xavier: 656pts, Nagle: 630pts, Marian: 616pts

Senior Carnival: Xavier: 696pts, Nagle: 626pts, Marian: 478pts, Finbar: 436pts

OUTRIGHT WINNING HOUSE:

We congratulate XAVIER, who came away as outright winners from points combined from both carnivals.   Xavier House Captains Sophia L, Olivia B, Hugh G and Finlay D were extremely excited to be presented with the winning shield and thanked all parent helpers, staff, all students for their efforts over the day, and of course - their Xavier team mates!  Well done Xavier.

THANK YOU’S: This carnival would not have been possible without the amazing support of all staff and especially the 45+ parent helpers that gave up a half or full day to assist with running the event.  From official scorers, marshalling roles, towel support helpers, placing helpers, ribbon givers and finish line support, EVERY helper stepped up, worked together and helped ensure the carnival ran as efficiently as could be.   Tania is very appreciative of this amazing support!
