Primary School

We would like to welcome everyone back to Term 4 and hope that you enjoyed the holiday break. I would like to extend a special welcome to all our new students and their families who started with us throughout Term 3 and at the start of Term 4; Will, Mihla, Lumé, Harry, Eleanor and Hudson.

We continue to receive enrolment enquiries and applications, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank all our families for their ongoing support. When speaking with prospective families, the impact your positive feedback has plays an important role in influencing their enrolment decisions. If you know anyone who may be considering a change of school, please encourage them to contact our School Registrar, so we can organise an obligation free School Tour.

Class Placement 2026

As we move into Term 4, forward planning for the following school year is a high priority, as this ensures a smooth start to the school year. Allocating students to 2026 classes is an area that staff spend many hours carefully considering so that students can be placed in classes that allow for maximum learning, in a safe and caring environment.

We understand the valuable role parents and guardians play in making the right choices. Parents have been asked to complete a Student Selection form, focusing on selecting those students their child works best with. It is our aim to ensure that each child has at least one of the four nominated students in their class the following year. The Student Selection forms were shared with families earlier this week and are due back on Monday 20 October.

History Excursion - Year 2

On Tuesday 16 September, Year 2 students braved the rainy and challenging weather to embark on their history excursion with great enthusiasm. Throughout the day, they asked thoughtful questions and made meaningful connections to their classroom learning, deepening their understanding of how technology has changed over time.

In Term 3, the students explored how advances in technology have shaped and simplified our daily lives. To extend this inquiry, the excursion began at Gunbower Estate, where students discovered traditional methods of cow milking from the past. The learning then continued at Rowans Gibson Farm in Nanneella, where students saw modern farming in action, including the impressive use of five Lely Astronaut A5 robotic milking machines. It was a memorable day of hands-on learning, allowing students to see history and innovation side by side. A big thank you to the staff who supported the excursion and to the Gibson family for welcoming the classes onto their farm and generously sharing their knowledge.

Legacy Mural

Our Year 6 students have proudly completed their 2025 Legacy Mural, a vibrant celebration of the Murray River and the unique community that surrounds it. Together, the students designed and painted a flowing artwork featuring local wildlife such as the Murray Cod and Eastern long-necked Turtle, alongside iconic paddle steamers and the old Echuca-Moama bridge.

This mural not only highlights the beauty of our environment but also reminds us of the vital role the river plays in sustaining our town’s history, culture and future. It stands as a lasting gift from the Class of 2025, leaving their mark on our school and inspiring future students to care for the place we call home.

Student Achievement

During the holidays, Edith Nield (Year 2B) visited her grandparents near Clare, NSW, and courageously joined her cousins in the Clare Bikekhana/Gymkhana on Saturday, 4 October. She enthusiastically competed in five events, proudly earning four second-place ribbons and one third-place ribbon! This year marked the exciting return of the Clare Gymkhana after a 25-year hiatus.

Congratulations Edith on your outstanding achievement!

Spotlight on Learning - Year 2 Showcase

During Term 3, the Year 2 students learnt about forces, including push, pull, and gravity. They were challenged to design and build a toy that demonstrated these forces. On Thursday 18 September, the students held a showcase for the Primary School students and Year 2 parents. They proudly presented their creative designs and models, explaining how different forces were at work in their toys.

“I worked with Lexi and we made an egg race, and it showed the forces of push and gravity as you didn’t want the egg to fall. First, we had to scrunch paper then wrap it with foil and sticky tape it together, it was amazingly fun to make. During the showcase Lexi and I told people what our toy was and how to use it. I liked that lots of people were asking different questions.”

“The toy I made was a boat. The force that it showed was pull and push, this was because I had a string to pull it and you could push it with your hand. I enjoyed designing and making my toy, it was fun. During the showcase, I told everyone what I made and showed them different parts of my toy. My favourite part of the showcase was that I got lots of feedback from students, teachers and parents.”

Spotlight on Learning - Year 6 Pastoral Care Projects

At Moama Anglican Grammar School, the Pastoral Care program plays a vital role in nurturing students' emotional, social, and spiritual growth. One standout initiative within this program is the Get Happier Project, designed specifically for Year 6 students. This project encourages students to work in small groups to brainstorm, plan, and execute activities that spread joy and positivity throughout our school community. By focusing on acts of kindness, empathy, and collaboration, the Get Happier Project helps students develop essential life skills such as teamwork, problem-solving, and leadership. It also fosters a deeper appreciation for the diverse roles within our school, while promoting mental health awareness and a sense of belonging.

We offer these projects to empower students to make a tangible difference, building resilience and a supportive environment that aligns with our school's values of compassion, respect and integrity while emphasising community service. Over the course of the Project, Year 6 students tackled a wide variety of creative ideas, each tailored to brighten someone's day. Examples included:

  • Creating ‘Good Day’ and ‘Bad Day’ boxes filled with uplifting notes
  • Organising a one-armed footy match to raise disability awareness
  • Hosting a talent show called ‘MAGS Got Talent’ for younger students
  • Running a weekly Chess Club with a culminating competition
  • Assisting with celebrations for the 100th day of Kindergarten
  • Throwing a Mental Health Disco for Kindergarten to Year 3 students
  • Facilitating a ‘Swap Op Go’ event for trading second-hand toys, books, and games
  • Preparing a sausage sizzle to thank Primary Staff
  • Baking brownies as a farewell gesture for Year 12 students
  • Arranging a fun class party for Year 1 students, complete with games and treats

While all these initiatives showcased the students' creativity and dedication, here are a few highlighted projects with more details, including reflections from the students themselves.

Mental Health Disco: Spreading Joy Through Dance and Kindness

One particularly vibrant project was the Mental Health Disco, organised by Billie Chapman, Ebony Patten, Holly Pritchard, and Gracie Fear. Held on 15 August, this event targeted students from Kindergarten to Year 3, with the goal of raising mental health awareness by promoting kindness, happiness, and shared fun. Nearly 140 children attended, dancing, laughing, and enjoying the positive atmosphere. As the group reflected: "Seeing the kids smiling and laughing brought us so much joy. We were amazed to hear teachers say their students talked about the disco non-stop. We had an incredible time and would love to host it again." This project not only boosted the younger students' spirits but also highlighted the power of simple, inclusive events to support emotional wellbeing.

Sausage Sizzle for Teachers: A Gesture of Appreciation

Rory Mansfield, Eli Teasdale-Dohnt, Fletcher Gilbert, Jordan Lyfield, and Samuel Whitelegg chose to honour the hard work of Primary Staff with a special sausage sizzle on 5 September. Using the school's cooking room, they prepared and shared the meal as a way to express gratitude for the educators' daily efforts. In their own words: "We wanted to do this to show our appreciation and to let the staff know that all the effort they put in is noticed and valued. It was a really fun experience and we were glad to see how much they enjoyed it." This initiative underscored the importance of recognising the behind-the-scenes contributors in our community and strengthening intergenerational bonds at MAGS.

Class Party for Year 1 Students: Building Excitement and Fun

Lily Watson, Ivy Cladingboel, Marcelle Cordner, and Isa Kenley brought cheer to the students in Year 1 with a class party on 12 September. They built anticipation by visiting the classrooms weeks in advance, then delivered games like Balloon Freeze, Bobs and Statues, and Octopus, along with snacks such as juices, chips, and lollipops. The group shared: "We wanted to give the Year 1 students something to look forward to. Overall, it was an amazing experience, and we hope that the students had a bit of fun brought to their week." This project exemplified how targeted, age-appropriate activities can create lasting memories and encourage younger students to embrace school life with enthusiasm.

These projects demonstrate the heart of the Get Happier initiative; empowering students to create positive change while learning valuable lessons in empathy and cooperation.

Message from the Office

As we move from our winter uniform to our summer uniform, I would like to remind parents that students are required to wear black leather school shoes as listed below with their summer uniform. There has been an increase in students substituting school shoes with black runners. Black runners may be worn with their sport uniform. I appreciate your support in ensuring that the correct uniform is worn.
