Welcome Back!
Welcome back to Term 4! We hope everyone had a relaxing and enjoyable break. We are excited to begin the final term of the year, filled with fun learning experiences, new challenges, and opportunities to celebrate the growth and achievements of our students.
Excursion – Melbourne Aquarium
We had a fantastic start to the term with our first excursion to the Melbourne Aquarium. The students were amazed by the wide variety of marine life and eagerly learned about different animals and their habitats. During our guided tour, they discovered fascinating facts about sharks, penguins, rays, and other aquatic creatures.
After exploring the aquarium, we enjoyed a lovely lunch at the nearby park, followed by some fun group games that encouraged teamwork, communication, and active play. The students were enthusiastic, curious, and fully engaged throughout the day.
A huge thank you to our parent helpers, Jane and Kim, whose support made the excursion smooth, safe, and even more enjoyable for everyone. Your presence helped students feel confident and supported, particularly those who benefit from extra guidance. This excursion provided a great introduction to our Term 4 inquiry unit, sparking curiosity and engagement that we will continue to build on in the classroom.
Literacy
In Literacy, students have continued engaging in the Little Learners Love Literacy (LLLL) program. This week, we focused on the digraph ‘ck’, practicing spelling, reading, and identifying it in words and sentences. Students have been showing increasing confidence in using this digraph independently in their writing and reading tasks.
We have also begun a unit in persuasive writing, where students are learning how to express their opinions, give reasons, and persuade others in a structured way. This is an exciting step in developing their writing skills and critical thinking.
Our Author Study continues this term with a focus on the works of Mo Willems and Matt Cosgrove. Students have been exploring storytelling techniques, illustrations, character development, and have been inspired to create their own imaginative stories and responses to the texts.
Numeracy
We are starting Term 4 with a review of addition concepts, helping students consolidate their knowledge and build confidence in their mathematical skills. Students have engaged in a variety of hands-on activities and games, including using counters, dice, and number cards to solve addition problems collaboratively with their peers.
In addition to reviewing addition, we are also revisiting other key topics from earlier in the year, including number recognition, counting strategies, and problem-solving. This ensures that all students are confident and ready to tackle more complex numeracy challenges later in the term.
