Principal's Report
It’s always one of the most exciting and jam-packed terms of the year, filled with opportunities to celebrate learning, connect as a community, and enjoy the many special events that bring our school to life.
Over the coming weeks, we’ll be preparing for a range of activities including our much-loved Carols evening, Year 6 Graduation, Information Nights, World Teachers Day (31st October), Prep Transition, Whole School Transition, Working Bees, Swimming, and a number of end-of-year celebrations. These events provide wonderful moments to come together, showcase student talents, and reflect on the growth and achievements of the year. Remember to check our Newsletter CALENDAR to make sure you have correct dates in your diaries.
Students in 3/4B were learning about statistics this week; especially how to refine their questions to gather information they want or need. Akshara and Ivy were eager to share their work with me, as they had surveyed students regarding some specific questions about our school values.
Interesting, students in 34B thought they showed Compassion more than any other values, while Creativity is their favourite value. We had a fantastic conversation about why each question might have garnered a different response, and what other questions we could ask about the data they had gathered.
A reminder that Whole School Assemblies will be held at 9.10am on Friday mornings this term, so please attend whenever you are available. Some special upcoming events include:
Drop your children off at school and head over to the Canteen for a cuppa and a chat with other parents before or after assembly each week - 8.50am-10am each week.
Thank you to our parent volunteers for organising this opportunity for families to connect.
Teachers are also busy finalising student reports, ensuring each child’s progress and accomplishments are clearly reflected. It’s a time when we pause to acknowledge the dedication of both staff and students, and the collective effort that makes our school such a vibrant place to learn.
We’re excited to announce two Working Bees this term, and we’d love your help to get a few big jobs done in the school and kindergarten grounds before the end of the year!
🔹 Friday 7 November, 3:30–5:30pm
This afternoon will focus on spreading mulch around the school grounds to freshen up our gardens and play areas. Please bring wheelbarrows, shovels, and pitchforks if you have them, and a readiness to get your hands dirty! Refreshments will be provided to keep everyone fuelled and happy.
🔹 Friday 28 November, 3:30–5:30pm
Our second working bee will focus on clearing and organising storage spaces, including areas under buildings and in sheds. We’ll also be breaking down old furniture to go into a skip (or two). It’s a big task but as we all know many hands make light work!
We hope to see lots of families come along to lend a hand and enjoy the community spirit that makes these afternoons so rewarding.
Let's take a moment to express our heartfelt thanks and best wishes to Katrina Bacon, who finished up at the end of Term 3 after an incredible 20 years of contribution to the Box Hill North community. Katrina has been part of our school in so many ways; first as a dedicated parent volunteer, and then as a highly valued Education Support staff member. Her warmth, care, and commitment have made a lasting impact on countless students, particularly through her work in supporting and engaging some of our most vulnerable learners.
Katrina has also given generously to our Parents’ Association, helping to build the strong sense of community that we continue to enjoy today. Her legacy of compassion, kindness, and connection will be felt for many years to come. We thank her deeply for all she has given to our school and wish her every happiness in the next chapter.
We are also delighted to welcome back Cara Jeffers, who has returned to Box Hill North after time away building her family. Cara will be teaching 3/4C for Term 4, and we are thrilled to have her warmth, experience, and positive energy back in the classroom. Students and staff alike are very happy to see her return to our community.
As always, thank you for your continued support and partnership. Term 4 promises to be full of joy, energy, and celebration. A fitting end to another wonderful year of learning and growth at Box Hill North Primary School and Kindergarten!
