F-2

This term, we are beginning our Digital Technology journey. The Foundation students have been learning about the 'what, where, when and why' of Digital Technology. They had to learn how to identify digital technology which led to discussions about home and school uses such as personal devices to robotic vacuums to AI! This week they will be identifying the keys on a keyboard, and safety using and carrying a laptop. This will ensure the students are ready to log on and use the computers safely in the coming weeks. The 1/2 students have identified the parts of computers and the use of the different hardware and software.  The 1/2s created keyboards where we played a game to identify quickly the spacebar, enter, backspace, shift and other important keys. The students can practise their quick touch typing at home, even practising their 'heart' or 'spelling' words could engage them in some homework!

This fortnight, the 3-6 students began to delve deeper into their understanding of Digital Technology. The students discussed its uses in the modern era and the new age of AI. We introduced many new terms such as parts of a laptop, and identifying software and hardware. We then had the opportunity to create new creative worlds or moving animations on different apps such as SCRATCH and MINECRAFT EDUCATION. This gave them an opportunity to learn about Coding and its uses.

The amazing students to receive an award this week are:

Quadreas Kemsley from 3/4 B

Aariv Shrestha  from 1/2A

Physical Education [PE] is a tremendous way to get students active while also teaching them important life skills, improve their physical health, and develop a love for being active.

During PE, students will:

  • focus on fundamental skills [e.g. running, catching, balance]
  • play games to reinforce the skills
  • foster social skills
  • celebrate their efforts, building confidence and a love for sport.

Each session will have a:

  • warm-up activity to get their muscles ready
  • skill development activity
  • fun game - teamwork and cooperation.

We have started PE this term by playing students’ favourite games, teaching the skill of running, and for the 5/6s playing Interschool Sports.

This Term in art, students will be exploring the wonderful connection between art and storytelling. Through our 'art meets literacy unit', students will learn how words and images work together to express ideas, characters and emotions. We will be using children's picture story books for inspiration when creating visual artworks. We will be exploring illustration techniques, character design and how artists communicate stories without words. Students will develop both their visual literacy and creative confidence, experimenting with line, colour, texture and composition to bring narratives to life.

We have started our term by entering our annual Mainfreight competition. The topic is "what I love about reading". Students had to be creative and draw a picture to match the theme.
