Dear Families,

Welcome to Week 2 of Term 4! We’ve had a smooth start to the term, and it’s been wonderful to see students returning with enthusiasm and ready to learn. This term is always a busy one, and we are already diving into lots of rich learning experiences across the curriculum.

LITERACY

During phonics, students have been revising and reviewing vowel digraphs and the different ways they are represented in spelling. We have been exploring how different spelling choices create homophones. Homophones are words that sound the same but have different spelling and a different meaning. An example is blew and blue. Can you think of any others?

In Reading, students have been learning about text purpose, literal and inferential comprehension and persuasive text structure. Students have explored different texts based on the persuasive text structure such as Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus and The Perfect Pet. Students were able to identify the persuasive language the author has used to persuade the readers.

In Writing, we are continuing on persuasivewriting, Students have used their arguments and are exploring how authors use language to convince an audience, and have begun drafting their own persuasive texts. They can state an opinion on a given topic before following up with their arguments or reasons to convince their audience.

For example: School holidays should be longer!

NUMERACY

In maths, student have explored various strategies to solve division problems. They have learnt to use arrays and equal group to share things equally among people  to systematically model their thinking. We are beginning to learn about place value and how the place of a number defines its value. What is the value of '3' in 139? Is it worth more or less than the '3' in 341?

SEL/INQUIRY

In SEL, students continue to engage with The Resilience Project through a lesson per week to focus on gratitude, mindfulness, and empathy. Students have also been learning about the importance of Consent or permission, body boundaries and how to show respect for others.

In Inquiry, students will be learning about the dinosaurs. Students have been showing great interest in learning about the dinosaurs using books, videos and doing google research.
