Curriculum Day- Cultivating excellence in every student
At Wimba one of our values is Excellence. This means that we all contribute to building an inclusive and thriving school and community. In order to cultivate excellence in every student, we need to cultivate excellence inside and outside of every classroom. Excellence looks different for every student but we want all of our students to achieve excellence.
On Friday the 17th of October the school held a curriculum day. The majority of this day was dedicated to teachers learning about and planning for excellence in the classroom. We worked through professional learning to ensure that teachers were expert in their teaching practice and then planned for the implementation of these practices in the classroom. This time was incredibly valuable for teachers to ensure that they can cater for the learning of your child throughout this term. This will ensure that we are supporting all students to become excellent learners and therefore have excellent academic outcomes.
Assessment and Reporting
Wimba has continuous reporting and this is a fantastic opportunity for families to see how their child is progressing across the year. Teachers post learning tasks on Compass with comments about the skills and knowledge that children demonstrate in the task. Classroom teachers do this twice a term. There is an opportunity for you to view your child's work, see the comments that teachers have made and also leave a comment as well. It would be great to see more parents adding comments to have a conversation about learning progress.
This term teachers are completing a range of assessments with students and at the end of the term students will receive their academic report. Please make sure that you take a moment to celebrate your child's academic achievements. More information about reports will come via Compass later this term.
