What we are learning in Term 4 Music
Foundation in Term 4 we are learning about:
- Students will be experimenting with performance.
- They will learn how to sing songs to express characters/stories and will build confidence to share their musical learning with peers and the audience.
- They will develop their ensemble skills, including following conducting cues and learning what it means to be a principled performer.
- Students will also continue to listen and respond to music, becoming aware of the elements of beat, rhythm, pitch, dynamics and tempo.
- They will also deepen their understanding of audience behaviour and learn to provide meaningful feedback about the performances they experience.
Students will begin to explore musical dynamics such as soft (quietly)/loud, Fast/Slow and High/Low sounds.
Year 1/2 in Term 4 we are learning about:
- Developing leadership skills throughout the process of ensemble playing, such as following conducting cues and learning what it means to be an ensemble member.
- They will consolidate their understanding of the concept of ‘pitch’ by exploring low and high pitch on a music stave through songs, games and notation activities.
- Students will continue to consolidate their skills in playing learned songs on the chime bars using the correct technique.
They will engage in songs and games to further consolidate their understanding of beat, pitch and rhythm.
Year 3/4 in Term 4 we are learning about:
- Students will be exploring Instrumental Technique and Ensemble playing.
- Students will learn to assess, adjust and develop their singing, tuned and untuned percussion instrument techniques.
- They will explore the roles and relationships between composers, performers and audiences, and will develop their knowledge of the responsibilities individual musicians have when performing as an ensemble.
- As audience members, students will continue learning how to share critical feedback in response to a range of live and recorded musical stimuli.
Year 5/6 in Term 4 we are learning about:
- Assessing, adjusting, and developing their singing, drumming, and tuned percussion instrument techniques.
- They will investigate the roles and relationships of composers, performers, and audiences, while deepening their understanding of the responsibilities each musician holds when performing as part of an ensemble.
- As audience members, students will also learn to provide thoughtful and constructive feedback in response to a variety of live and recorded musical performances.
- Students will create an ensemble arrangement for a performance.
