Principal's Message

Today we celebrated World Teacher's Day, a moment to thank the incredible educators who shape our school community. With the theme Hats Off to educators,” we paused to reflect on the passion, skill and care our staff bring to their work each day.

We recognise what a profound responsibility it is to care for your children each day and we approach that role with deep respect, wholehearted commitment and genuine gratitude. At St Martin de Porres, we are so lucky to have such committed and caring educators. Our educators know their students and plan thoughtfully to meet each child’s learning needs. They nurture wellbeing, celebrate growth and build strong relationships with families and one another.

What makes the greatest difference in a child’s learning journey is the educator. Passion lives in the hearts of those who genuinely care about making a difference and at St Martin de Porres, our educators bring that passion to life every day. They are not only educators but also learners themselves, constantly seeking new ways to teach, connect and inspire. They reflect, adapt and evolve their practice to meet the changing needs of their students. Their knowledge, skill and unwavering belief in every child’s potential, combined with a willingness to grow and improve are what truly drive success and make SMDP a special place to be.

To our educators - thank you for all that you do. You are the heartbeat of our school, and we are so grateful for your tireless work and the love you pour into every day. Your dedication, collaboration and pursuit of excellence are what make our school a place where children flourish

St Martin de Porres Feast Day

Tomorrow, we gather as a school to celebrate the Feast Day of St Martin de Porres, the Saint after whom our school is named. This special day invites us to reflect on his legacy of love, service and compassion values that continue to guide our community.

Born in Lima, Peru, in 1579, St Martin lived a life of humility and generosity. Despite facing poverty and discrimination, he dedicated himself to caring for the sick, the poor, and those in need. Known as the “Father of the Poor,” he treated everyone with dignity and kindness and his deep faith inspired acts of healing, hospitality, and hope.

St Martin is the patron saint of multiracial harmony, public health workers, and barbers and his example reminds us of the power of compassion and the importance of serving others.

At St Martin de Porres School, we honour his legacy through our motto: “Love and Service to All.” These words shape our daily actions and reflect our commitment to building a welcoming, inclusive and faith-filled environment.

Tomorrow’s celebration will include a whole-school Mass, reflective activities, a shared lunch and our Colour Run in the afternoon. Thank you to everyone who has raised funds for our school and signed up to participate, your support is deeply appreciated. As our current Grade 6 students reminded me, this event was a highlight of their year two years ago, and we’re excited to bring that joy to our community once again.

Together, today and tomorrow remind us that St Martin de Porres is more than just a school. It’s a community built on love, learning and service, where every child is known, every educator is valued and every moment is an opportunity to grow in faith and kindness.
