YEAR 10-12 SCHOOLNEWS

Year 10/11 Outdoor Education

From Monday 27th to Wednesday 29th October, our Year 10 and 11 Outdoor Education students took on a challenging and rewarding hike along one of Victoria’s most scenic coastal trails — from Cape Otway to Aire River and on to Johanna Beach. Across three days, students covered over 25 kilometres of rugged yet breathtaking terrain, showcasing outstanding resilience, teamwork, and determination throughout the journey.

The hike tested both physical and mental endurance, with steep climbs, reptile interactions, and unpredictable weather conditions (albeit we were very well looked after) adding to the challenge. Despite these obstacles, students approached each day with enthusiasm, positivity, and strong group spirit, supporting one another along the way.

Their behaviour and attitude were exemplary, and each student represented Western Heights College with pride and maturity. The group demonstrated sound preparation, respect for the environment, and a willingness to step beyond their comfort zones.

This experience not only strengthened their practical outdoor skills but also reinforced key values such as persistence, leadership, and collaboration. The staff were incredibly proud of how each student conducted themselves and embraced the challenge, especially when it was their first multi-day hike.

A fantastic few days that reflected the best of our school’s Outdoor Education program.

Thanks,

Mr Parker (Yr.10/11 Outdoor Education teacher)
