Netball Program

It’s been an extremely busy fortnight in the Netball Program with so much going on!

Last week, our Intermediate and Senior students attended the Melbourne High Performance Day where students travelled by train to the State Netball Centre in Parkville. They completed a court session on Melbourne Vixens’ Training Courts before heading to their High Performance Gym to undertake a session followed by a recovery pool session.

Students were exposed to experiences in facilities utilised by Melbourne Vixens and State under age programs. But the highlight of the day was whilst in the HP Theatrette, student athletes were addressed by the GOAT herself, arguably Australia’s greatest ever netballer in Sharelle McMahon. Sharelle shared experiences of her incredible yet humbling career as a young, raw, remote and regional junior player to her journey to Australian Captain and beyond. Sharelle shared experiences that shaped and defined her as both a player and person and also her career post playing to her current role as General Manager of High Performance and Pathways. The students were so fortunate and privileged to hear from Sharelle.

In education, student athletes are fully immersed in their Wellbeing unit where each week they continue to add to their Wellbeing Portfolio’s as they explore identity and external expectations. We thank Kris Blicavs for his time creating the curriculum as well as Ainsley Corrigan for her experienced delivery.

This past week also saw our SSP Leader Renee Lane (who also had a birthday during the week) and Susan Meaney head to Melbourne to continue discussions with Melbourne Vixens and Netball Victoria as we progress discussion to form a formal partnership/relationship. They also met with AFL Barwon to initiate potential opportunities. As our program continues to grow, we strive to continue to explore and build important relationships aimed at benefitting our student athlete experiences and community opportunities. Exciting times ahead in this space.

Have a great rest of the week!

Students at WHC are encouraged to ‘Call Out’ poor behaviours they may be exposed to, witness, or hear of in our community.

If you hear something that is not right, or feel uncomfortable in our community, we want to hear from you!

Students are encouraged to email their Year Level address, where concerns will be resolved.

LIBRARY NEWS

As we approach the halfway point of term 4, we ask students to remember the due dates on their library books and return any that are overdue before the end of the year. Don’t hesitate to ask our library staff if you would also like to renew any books you may have loaned out.

This month our display in the library is highlighting our horror, crime and mystery/suspense genres to get readers into the Spooktober mood. All books on the display can be borrowed!

Social media age restrictions webinars for parents and carers
