Prep A and Prep C are still looking for one more parent each. If you are interested, please let us know!

Information Night

It has been bought to our attention that the link for the Prep Information Evening was not working for some families. We have now uploaded the video to Vimeo. Please use the following link to view the important information shared. https://vimeo.com/1169204110/66e227284c?share=copy&fl=sv&fe=ci

Full Weeks start this week!

Our Wednesday assessments have now finished, which means Prep students will begin attending school full-time from this week. This extra day can be tiring at first, so calm, low-key afternoons and plenty of sleep should help your child settle into their new routine.

CURRICULUM

Reminder: we are beginning our learning at 9am, with our play-based time in the afternoon. Please remind your child to go to the toilet before they enter the classroom.

📚 Phonics and reading

We are learning about the letter P, and—very excitingly—we will begin blending three sounds to read CVC words (consonant–vowel–consonant). This is a big step in early reading!

Our learning focus will include:

  • Understanding the phonemes (the sound each letter makes)
  • Learning the cued articulation for these sounds
  • Identifying where we might see each letter in a word
  • Practising the graphemes (the way we write the letter), including correct letter formation
  • Reading 3 letter words using the sounds we know

What can you do at home?

• Look for the letter P on signs, labels and in books.

•Ask your child to tell you the sound that P makes, and to show you the cued articulation.

• Use the letters A, M, S, T, and P to build and read simple three-letter words together, such as mat, sat, tap, pat.

• Enjoy bedtime stories together to build vocabulary, comprehension and a love of reading.

📝 Literature: reading responses and writing

Our mentor text this week is Bev and Kev. We have chosen this story to support our CBL learning about kindness and inclusive play. Students will continue to build their understanding of key story elements such as character, setting and plot. They will also reflect on the different ways they can be a good friend, and we will finish the week with a fun giraffe craft inspired by the book.

In writing, students will continue developing their fine motor control. They will practise using a functional pencil grip while forming the letter P, focusing on correct entry and exit points. We will also begin sounding out and writing CVC words using the sounds we know, and students will have a go at writing short, dictated sentences.

🏡 What can you do at home?

•Practice letter formation of P using crayons, pencils, or even finger tracing in sand.

•Provide activities that build hand strength and coordination, such as playing with playdough, threading beads or using tweezers to pick up small objects.

•Write some 3 letter words using the taught sounds - A, M, S, T, P

🔢  Maths

We are continuing our exploration of counting and place value. Students will count collections and match them to their corresponding number, as well as compare groups using the language of more, less and the same. They will also practise adding one more to a collection and learn to write the numbers 0–5 with correct formation, including proper entry and exit points.

🏡  What can you do at home?

• Count everyday objects together.

• Compare groups by asking your child to identify which group has 'more', 'less', or 'the same' number of items.

• Practice correct number formation.

💛 Wellbeing

Our SWPBS focus this week is Be Kind during outdoor play. Students will play fairly and share play spaces with others, helping everyone enjoy their time outside safely and happily.
