Leadership updates and reflections

An update from Julie
Congratulations to our 2026 Student Leaders
Thank you to the many family and friends who attended last week's Student Leaders Assembly. It is always a much-anticipated opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate the students who have been elected each year to represent their peers. We extend our thanks to Councillor Carli Lange, our elected local government representative for the Yarra Ward, who kindly accepted our invitation to present the Grade 6 Student Leadership badges and inspire students with her perspectives about what makes a great leader – kindness, willingness to work collaboratively and resilience.
Congratulation to our Prep to Grade 5 students who were elected by their peers and teachers as the class Student Voice, Green Team and ICT representatives. These students will support their peers, meet regularly to share ideas, come up with solutions and help take action that show how we live our school values at Wonga Park P.S.

We also congratulate our Grade 6 student leaders who have been selected to fulfil many important roles in our school. We are confident that our 2026 student leaders will be exemplary role-models, leading by example and inspiring their peers to demonstrate kindness, inclusion and respect. They will also help run our assemblies, lunchtime clubs and special events, support grade levels and specialist areas and represent our school with pride.

Traffic Update – Lantana Drive
Last week we received a communication from members of the Manningham Infrastructure & Sustainable Operations team and the Traffic and Transport Team who recently visited our school along with Councillor Carli Lange to discuss the Lantana Drive drop-off and pick-up process. Further signage will be installed to indicate that the northern side of Lantana Drive is a designated 'Kiss and Drop' area with a 2-minute limit for cars. We are hopeful that we will re-open the drop-off and pick-up space in Lantana Drive once the additional signage is installed.
Thank you for your patience as we await these works to be completed.
Have a great week
Julie
An update from Adele

Policy Updates:
The following policies have been recently updated; both policies are required to be updated on an annual basis and are approved by the principal. Please view the updated policies via this link.
Anaphylaxis policy
The purpose of the Anaphylaxis Policy is explain to Wonga Park Primary School parents, carers, staff and students the processes and procedures in place to support students diagnosed as being at risk of suffering from anaphylaxis. This policy ensures that Wonga Park Primary School is compliant with Ministerial Order 706 and the Department’s guidelines for anaphylaxis management.
Asthma Policy
The purpose of the Asthma Policy is to ensure that Wonga Park Primary School appropriately supports students diagnosed with asthma.
Disability and Inclusion
On Friday, during our Curriculum Day, staff engaged in professional learning focused on Inclusive Education.
We began with reflection, considering times when we may have felt unseen or unheard in our own learning journeys, and what could have made a difference.
We explored:
- What inclusive education looks like in practice
- Providing reasonable adjustments
- The difference between exclusion, segregation, integration and true inclusion
- How school culture, teaching approaches and classroom environments can remove barriers to learning
We also examined the shift from a “medical model” of disability, which focuses on fixing the individual, to a “social model,” which challenges us to identify and remove barriers within our systems and environments.
Inclusion is not simply about where students are placed, it is about ensuring every child feels safe, respected, valued and able to participate meaningfully in learning.
Importantly, inclusion extends beyond school. The young people we support today will one day enter the workforce and broader community. By building inclusive environments now, we are preparing them and ourselves for a more understanding and compassionate society. Inclusion is something we build together.
Child Safety
Cyber Safety Project Incusion
Today, our students participated in the annual incursion with the Cyber Safety Project, designed to boost their online safety, digital wellbeing and responsible behaviour in the digital world. The program, endorsed by the eSafety Commissioner, provides age-appropriate learning and reflection activities to help students think critically about how they interact online. We would love for you to continue to the conversations at home with your child/ren and explore what they learned today.
Prep – Grade 2 students learned to recognise feelings online, reflect on their personal use of technology, and practise thinking about online safety/
Grade 3 and 4 students became “Digital Detectives”, focusing on identifying their support networks, understanding balance in screen time, and promoting healthy text-chat habits.
Grade 5 and 6 students tackled real-world scenarios such as Settings for Success, Digital Dilemmas and Group Chat Norms, encouraging thoughtful decisions and positive online relationships.
Cyber Safety Project Parent Webinar Series
