STEM
Grade 1/2
This week, continuing on from last week’s exploration of animals and their habitats, students are using the iPad app Keynote to create a dedicated page for each habitat. They are learning to use a range of app features, including adding and editing text, adjusting size, font and colour, and inserting clip art and images from Google. This task allows students to combine their understanding of how living things depend on their environment with developing digital design skills.
Grade 3/4
This week, continuing their learning about introduced species, Grade 3/4 students are extending their research by creating a ‘Wanted’ poster focused on a specific introduced animal. Their poster will include information about where the species originated, why it was introduced to Australia, and the impacts it has had on native flora and fauna.
Visual Arts
In the classroom this week...
Prep
Students will be completing their Yayoi Kusama inspired painting. This week they will add dots in warm or cool colours. They will also participate in a printing station, using bubble wrap to create a dotty background for their next project.
Grade 1/2
Students are continuing to look at the work of Yayoi Kusama. This week, they will begin a textiles project, where they will stitch a border around a hessian square. The focus will be on threading a plastic needle with yarn, tying a knot at the end, and following the over and under pattern of the running stitch.
Grade 3/4
Students will be finishing off their chair bag designs. They will also be working with a partner to create an ‘Obliteration Room’ inspired by the installation of Yayoi Kusama. Using white cardboard and paper, they will create a 3D room and furniture ready to stick dots all over next week.
Grade 5
Students will be adding their 4th layer to their canvas painting, this week using posca paint markers to add details and pattern.
They will also be collaging their chosen mushrooms using contrasting papers, adding dots in various sizes inspired by Yayoi Kusama.
Grade 6
Students will be adding their 4th layer to their canvas painting, this week using posca paint markers to add details and pattern.
They will also be choosing their favourite pumpkin drawing to transfer onto A3 coloured paper.

Performing Arts
Prep students will continue exploring the musical element of tempo, identifying and demonstrating fast and slow through songs and movement activities. They will also begin exploring pitch, learning to hear and show the difference between high and low sounds using their voices and movement.
In Years 1 and 2, students will focus on rhythm. They will practise reading and performing rhythms using taa, ti-ti and zaa, building confidence in keeping a steady beat while clapping and playing percussion instruments. Our Grade 2 students will revise these rhythms before extending their learning to include the minim (too-oo) and exploring how longer note values fit within the beat.
Students in Years 3–6 will continue their bucket drumming unit. This week, they will explore the musical element of dynamics, including crescendo (gradually getting louder) and decrescendo (gradually getting softer). They will also practise reading notation to understand which part of the drum to play and will begin playing along to selected songs, applying their ensemble skills and control.
Auslan
Grade 1 and 2
This week, students will watch the Auslan Storybooks version of The Very Cranky Bear. Students will focus on recognising animals and showing emotions using facial expression, gesture and body movement. They will respond to the story through miming and drawing, learning how important non-manual features (facial expression and body language) are in Auslan communication.
Grade 3 and 4
This week in Auslan, our Year 3 and 4 students will watch the Auslan Storybooks version of The Wrong Book. Students will focus on identifying repeated signs and high-frequency phrases in the story, and discuss how these translate to English. They will explore how facial expression and other non-manual features add meaning in storytelling, and notice how changes in expression can influence interpretation and understanding.
Grade 5 and 6
This week in Auslan, our Year 6 students will finalise their step-by-step instructions they planned and rehearsed last week. Using sequential signs, students will clearly explain how to complete a task while maintaining appropriate facial expression and signing clarity. They will then present to their classmates, building their confidence and expressive skills in the process.
