VIS Athlete Visit
Laura Hingston (Diver) and Jack Howell (Para-triathlete) visited today from the VIS.
Laura shared about her journey to representing Australia on the world stage as a diver, even though she dreamed of being an Olympic gymnast.
Students were inspired to set goals, have big dreams, be disciplined, prepare well by prioritising eating and sleeping. Both athletes spoke of the dedication it takes with over 30 hours of training per week and multiple injuries to overcome.
There were some great questions and even some handstand challenges (even though they weren’t 10metres up on the diving tower).
House Captain Update
Hockey
In week 5, the Level 3 and 4 students participated in a hockey program that they learned how to play hockey. We interviewed some of the students that participated, and some of the responses were…
“I liked playing the octopus hockey game where we played Octopus with a twist of hockey”
“We played a traffic light game where red meant we had to stop the ball, yellow meant we had to dribble it slowly and green meant we could try and run and dribble at the same time.”
Gymnastics
In weeks 5 and 6 (and still going in week 7 & 8) the Level 1 and 2 students participated in the gymnastics incursion. Some students said that they mostly enjoyed the bars which is where they learned how to make an L shape and spin around the bar. They also enjoyed the bunny hops and the trampoline where they bounced a lot. Another favourite was the beam.
Running club and cross country
This term running club is back up and running. It happens on Tuesday morning at 8:30 in the parklands opposite the school for Level 1 to 6 students. Make sure you check in with Mr Jenkins so he can record your attendance and you work your way to attendance certificates.
We do many things like octopus, poison ball, tigers’ tails and a lot of running activities to get everybody ready for cross country this year. This year we will have cross country mayhem where the Junior and Senior cross country will be on the same day. It will be held on the Thursday 19th of March.
Us House captains will be helping Mr Jenkins run the Junior Cross Country but if you want to be a parent helper with the Senior Cross Country, please let Mr Jenkins know by filling in the following form
