SECONDARY (7-12)

Year 12 Retreat

Our Year 12 students recently stepped away from the busyness of school life to take part in a special time of reflection, connection and renewal at their Year 12 Retreat.

The retreat program is thoughtfully designed to strengthen relationships within the cohort, creating a supportive network as they journey towards their final days of formal secondary schooling. Through shared activities, meaningful conversations and moments of quiet reflection, students had the opportunity to deepen friendships, build trust and appreciate the unique gifts each person brings to the group.

There were moments of laughter, honesty and inspiration as students reflected on how far they have come and looked ahead to the months that lie before them. The retreat encouraged them to lean on one another, celebrate their achievements and approach the challenges of their final year with courage and unity.

As they return to school, we hope they carry with them a renewed sense of connection, purpose and belonging, knowing they walk this final chapter together, supporting and uplifting one another every step of the way.

ATTENTION STUDENTS AND PARENTS

VCE/VM/VET 2026 Assessment Dates

Assessment tasks form an important part of your child’s learning and progress. These dates are scheduled well in advance to ensure fairness and consistency for all students. Avoiding absences during assessment times helps reduce stress for students and prevents the need for rescheduling processes, which can be complex and time-sensitive.

Where possible, please refrain from organising holidays, medical appointments (unless urgent), or other events during scheduled assessment periods.

We greatly appreciate your support in helping students approach these times calmly, confidently, and well-prepared.

Students can access and print a copy of the calendar via the below link and on SIMON:

Simple Ways You Can Support Your Child During Assessment Times

  • Encourage a consistent routine – regular sleep, meals, and study time make a big difference.
  • Create a quiet study space – minimise distractions during revision periods.
  • Help them plan ahead – check the assessment calendar together and map out key dates.
  • Promote balanced habits – encourage short study breaks, exercise, and time away from screens.
  • Offer reassurance – remind them that effort and preparation matter more than perfection.
  • Communicate early – if concerns arise, contact the school promptly so support can be arranged.

Application to Reschedule a VCE/VM/VET School-Based Assessment Task

Extension of time for an individual student to complete a school-based assessment task will only be granted in special circumstances. The following procedure must be completed by the student prior to the original date for an advanced known absence (e.g. a planned medical procedure), or within three school days following their return to school:

  1. The student must complete a reschedule form and attach supporting documentation*.  This form has been emailed to students and there is a copy on SIMON under student links.

  2. The student takes the form to their class teacher to sign and arrange an alternate date for the task to be completed. Rescheduled OATs/SACs will take place afterschool on a Wednesday. The teacher will sign the form to acknowledge the change and grant the extension of time via the SIMON platform. Please note the maximum period for the extension of an OAT/SAC is one week following the student’s return to school.

  3. The student submits the completed form, with supporting documentation* attached, to the VCE Coordinator for review. In absence of the VCE Coordinator, the form can be submitted to the 7 - 12 Learning and Teaching Leader. The teacher, student and parents are informed of the change to the assessment date and time, if the application is approved and adheres to VCAA assessment and reporting guidelines.

  4. The student completes the task at the agreed scheduled date. If the student is unable to complete the task at the agreed time, a new application must be submitted.

Please note: Failure to follow this procedure may result in the student achieving a 0 for scored assessment tasks. In this case, the student will be given an opportunity to complete the assessment for the awarding of an S only.

* The following supporting documentation is acceptable:

  • a medical certificate (backdated certificates will not be accepted)

  • a report/letter from a qualified medical professional or practitioner

  • a copy of a funeral/death notice

  • for OATs ONLY, a signed parent note or email explaining the absence. A parent letter or email is not acceptable as evidence for absence from VCE Unit 3 and 4 studies.

*Statutory declarations are not accepted as sufficient evidence for missing a formal assessment. Please note, emailed documents will only be accepted if the original sender’s details have been provided. Scanned documents will not be accepted.

Reminder: Leave Pass Protocol

Parents/carers are reminded there is a very important process to follow if your student must leave the college at any time throughout school hours. Please ensure you follow these steps:

Parents/carers MUST provide a note to the front office, at the start of the school day, stating the following:

- Student Name

- Date of leave required

- The time the student must present to reception to take their leave

- If they will return to the college the same day, and if so what time they will return

- The reason for the leave being requested

- The parent/carer’s name and signature

Please note, students will only be permitted to be collected by their parent/carer unexpectedly and without a note if it is an emergency.

Uniform reminder

Students are expected to wear full academic uniform on non-PE days.

This includes a knitted jumper and/or blazer for Year 10-12 students and a softshell jacket or knitted jumper for Year 7-9 students.

Students are not permitted to wear long sleeve tops underneath their academic shirts or PE t-shirts in lieu of wearing a jumper or for PE the rugby top.

For modesty, female students should be in the long winter skirt or pants with the long-sleeve academic shirt (blouse), jumper and/or blazer. Students are not permitted to wear the summer dress with layers underneath.

Please ensure you purchase any required items over the term break.

Any questions or concerns please contact Michael Quin, Rohan Lelliott or Sarah Baglin.  We appreciate your understanding and cooperation regarding this.
