Snapshots from the week

AVISTA Brisbane Careers Day ✈️🚀
What an incredible experience yesterday at AVISTA Brisbane Careers Day ✈️🚀
Our students spent the day at Aviation Australia connecting with some of the biggest names in aviation and aerospace, including CSIRO, Boeing, Northrop Grumman Australia, Australian Space Agency and The University of Queensland (Space).
From drones and robotics to hydrogen-electric flight and virtual reality simulations, students gained real insight into future-focused careers and the pathways that can take them there.
Experiences like this don’t just inform — they inspire.
We’re proud of how our students represented the school and embraced every opportunity to learn, connect and imagine what’s possible.
📚🔎 Year 12 English Hit the Streets of Brisbane!
Today our Year 12 English students stepped beyond the classroom and into the shadows of the city on the Brisbane Crime Tour.
Exploring the hidden histories, untold stories and real-life events that have shaped our city, students were able to connect themes of crime, morality, power and perspective directly to their current studies. There’s something powerful about standing in the very places where history unfolded — it brings texts, context and critical thinking to life.
A huge thank you to the tour guides for delivering such an engaging and thought-provoking experience, and to our staff for making learning dynamic and memorable.
Real stories. Real places. Real learning.
First Nations Chef Chris Jordan Visits Balmoral
Earlier this week, we had the pleasure of welcoming First Nations chef Chris Jordan to Balmoral State High School.
Chris spent time with our students sharing his knowledge of native ingredients and speaking about the connection between food, culture and Country. It was a valuable opportunity for students to learn more about First Nations perspectives and the role food can play in storytelling and community.
We thank Chris for visiting and for the insight he provided to our students. Experiences like this continue to support cultural understanding and broaden learning beyond the classroom. Check out our Instagram or Facebook page for a video on how the day went!
Celebrating Our QATSIF Round 17 Scholarship Recipients (ACU Banyo – 20 February 2026)
Today, Balmoral State High School proudly joined Elders, families, and school communities at ACU Banyo to celebrate the QATSIF Round 17 Scholarship New Recipients and Student Leaders ceremony. We warmly congratulate our Balmoral students recognised today as new scholarship recipients: Jannali Sandy, Cienna Packman, Layla Cole, Djarell Turner, Jared Turner, and Kaleb Watkins-Dougherty.
We also acknowledge Jackson Dunford, recognised for his student leadership as Toyne House Captain. This recognition is more than an award—it celebrates each student’s commitment to learning, leadership, and strong cultural identity as they step into their senior schooling journey. We thank families and carers for the support they provide every day, and our staff who continue to champion student success, agency, and belonging.
A brief history of QATSIF
QATSIF (Queensland Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Foundation) is an independent charitable trust established in November 2008 to strengthen education outcomes for Queensland Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students through a secure, ongoing funding base.
The scholarship program has supported students since 2010, providing practical assistance to help students complete senior pathways and achieve their goals. Congratulations again to our new recipients and Jackson on his student leadership position—Balmoral is proud of you, and we look forward to all you will achieve in 2026 and beyond.
