Careers Day: abuzz with special guests, collaboration and broadened horizons
Careers Day this week was a fantastic day, full of dynamic conversations between students and our many guest representatives from tertiary education, industry and beyond.
More than 1000 students were involved in our on-campus Careers Expo, during which our Year 10,11 and 12 cohorts had the opportunity to engage with their choice of more than 40 external exhibitors, including several Melbourne-based universities; some interstate universities; TAFEs; industry associations; major public and private sector employers; youth careers services; apprenticeship organisations and more. We welcomed several new exhibitors as well as crowd favourites from our inaugural NHS Careers Expo last year.
In addition, our Year 10 students spent their morning participating in interactive careers sessions, featuring inspiring guest presenters from a range of industries. A total of thirteen industry sessions were available and each student was thoughtfully matched with three sessions based on their career interests. Our presenters, many of whom are NHS parents, shared their personal career journeys, industry insights, and the valuable career navigation skills they have developed. Each 20-minute presentation was followed by a robust Q&A session, revealing rich student learning and engagement.
We extend our thanks to our Careers Day guest presenters who generously took time out of their busy work schedules for our students' benefit. We are also very grateful to all our exhibitors who spent their entire working day with us, as well as the many students and staff who helped make this day possible.
Congratulations to Michala Scally (Year12), Mads Doughty (Year 11) and Herbert Goodsir (Year 10) who entered the explore-your-career lottery and won! You can collect your prizes donated by Explore Careers from the NHS Careers Office in Student Services Room M11 anytime this week.
