Principal's Message

Principal’s Message

This term has been really positive. I have been really impressed with our teachers and our students. Students are engaged and teachers are well prepared. Specialist lessons are all running well, which provides a real breadth of curriculum opportunities for our studies. One of my favourite things this year has been to sit down and eat lunch with some of our students. This informal moment allows a real insight to the student experience. It has reinforced to me that having a breadth of opportunities is the best approach, to help all students feel inspired and connected to the school community.

Talking of connectedness, our school garden program is really connected to the Little Dove Cafe. We have groups of students picking produce and wandering over to Emmaus to give it to Chef Comino and Mrs Henwood. This is just a sliver of what we have planned, so I am very excited about the opportunities this presents to our community.

The corridor to the early years is now open. The Grade 1s and Mrs Hickey danced in excitement. Thank you to all members of the community as it has been a long time coming! We have two new rooms, which are being utilised for small group work. Next week we hope to have access to the Library. It will take quite a while to set up but again, it will be worth the wait!

Students are busy preparing for the Stations of the Cross Liturgy 2024. Please mark one of the times in your diary - 10.00am or 12.00pm, 28 March in the Church.

Music

Just another reminder to encourage our students to get involved in some of our musical opportunities in 2024. Choir is happening every Monday and Tuesday during morning fitness time. Rock band is back on a Tuesday. We have a  new group called Marimba Madness. Dance Club is on a Wednesday - and there are talks of going to the eisteddfod this year (if your child is participating, you should have received a letter). Students also have the opportunity to be part of the liturgical dance at our Stations of the Cross liturgies next week. Of course, all students receive Music classes every week and a major music excursion for the year. We also have ten students participating in the MacKillop Band Program this year, which involves weekly visits to MacKillop College for instruction.

A few helpful general reminders:

  • Please note we have engaged a traffic engineer to improve the line marking and disabled parking in our car park. More information will be sent to parents when this is available.
  • Just a reminder that dogs are not allowed on school property without written permission from the Principal.
  • Please ensure that you can receive Compass notifications. This is our main point of contact with families.
  • Learning Conferences are still open. These will occur in Week 9 (Wednesday 3 and Thursday 4 April), except for Grade 2, which is next Week 8 (Tuesday 26 and Wednesday 27 March). These are a perfect opportunity to discuss the start to the 2024 school year and review some work samples and assessments in key learning areas.
