LOTE

Selamat Datang, or welcome to Term 2 Indonesian! Students have really enjoyed learning about their new topics for this term.

In Prep, students have been learning about Indonesian masks and how they are used in lots of performances and storytelling. We looked at different characters from the story Ramayana and decided if characters were halus (good) or kasar (bad). Prep have also been practising their colours and numbers.

Year 1 and 2 students have begun learning how to express feelings and emotions. We have had a lot of fun with charades and emojis. Students have also been refreshing their number and colour knowledge.

In Year 3 and 4, students are learning about time. We are learning how to say different hours of the day using our number knowledge, and the four Indonesian times of day (instead of am/pm). Over the coming weeks we will learn more complex times and link this to our vocab for daily activities.

Years 5 and 6 are learning about location this term. We have looked at prepositions, and practised these using objects in the classroom, as well as researching our own vocab. Students are also starting to learn cardinal directions and we java been enjoying a direction game.

Across the school we have also been learning about holidays and celebrations in Indonesia, including Kartini Day and Idul Fitri (Eid) - both of which have happened in Indonesia recently. We have looked at how other people celebrate, and how these celebrations are similar and different to our own experiences.

Visual Arts

Welcome back to school after the holidays! Our lower grades have kicked off the term with a heartwarming gift for our Mums and loved ones. The year 3/4 students are beaming with pride as they've completed and taken home their fantastic toy creations. This term promises exciting explorations in learning: our Preps will dive into the fascinating link between Art and literacy, inspired by the captivating works of Eric Carle. Meanwhile, our 1/2 students are drawing inspiration from our beloved Oak trees, engaging in the art of textile weaving. In the world of architecture, our 3/4s will be zooming in on Australia's iconic buildings, unraveling their beauty and significance. And for a collaborative project, our 5/6 cohort will be working together to construct a city out of blocks, a thoughtful gift to enhance the Preps' exploration time. Here's to a term filled with creativity, discovery, and shared accomplishments!

Performing Arts

We have had a wonderful start to Term 2!

This week we revisited our school values of Safety, Kindness and Respect and how they apply in Performing Arts. We have moved our bodies to different styles of music and displayed our knowledge through games! The junior students have met Frank 'The Kindness Monster' - he likes to give cuddles and watch children do their best work.

I have enjoyed meeting all of your children and am blown away by the talent we have at Yarra Road!

Please come and say hello if you see me around the school, I look forward to getting to know you all.
